Product Description

The first book in the follow-up to Kit Rocha's bestselling BEYOND series...

Gideon's Riders, Book One

Lieutenant Ashwin Malhotra is a Makhai soldier—genetically engineered to be cold, ruthless. Unfeeling. His commanding officers consider him the perfect operative, and they’re right. Now, he has a simple mission: to infiltrate Gideon’s Riders, the infamous sect of holy warriors that protects the people of Sector One.

He’s never failed to execute an objective, but there’s one thing he didn’t anticipate—running into Dr. Kora Bellamy, the only woman to ever break through his icy exterior.

When Kora fled her life as a military doctor for the Makhai Project, all she wanted was peace—a quiet life where she could heal the sick and injured. The royal Rios family welcomed her like a sister, but she could never forget Ashwin. His sudden reappearance is a second chance—if she can manage to touch his heart.

When the simmering tension between them finally ignites, Kora doesn't realize she's playing with fire. Because she’s not just falling in love with a man who may not be able to love her back. Ashwin has too many secrets—and one of them could destroy her.

I'm not sure where to start with this review, first and foremost I absolutely adored the story. I always find it a bit scary starting a spin off series, especially when I so loved the original series. I loved every single book in the Beyond Series and I had this fear that I just wasn't going to have the same feeling with this book. I was so wrong, I just loved it!

It's so hard to write a spoiler free review when all I want to do is gush about everything that happened! I already felt that I knew who Kora was and what she was about and the book didn't disappoint. It's very hard to find a pure character in a series like this, Kora is exactly that, pure spirited, kind and selfless. She's seen such terrible things in her past and yet it doesn't effect who she is. She's adored by those around her and it's very much deserved.

Ashwin was a character I was never very sure of, I didn't know if I wanted his story quite yet or not. I thought I really wouldn't like him, how wrong was I! He's at the very top of the predator chain, feared by all those that know of him. This book really showed that actually we knew very little of who the real man was. His entire focus has been on keeping Kora safe regardless of who he had to step through or over to achieve it and I think the most interesting part of this book was to see how his mindset changed through the influence of those around him.

The love and devotion shared between these two was really magical to experience.

I loved the little flash we got of Sector Four, I desperately wanted that scene to be so much longer!

The Riders are going to be fantastic characters to read, all so different and I'm really looking forward to the future books.

I received an ARC for Ashwin, though I still purchased the book to support the authors. All opinions in this review are my own.

ASHWIN! I've been waiting so long for this book, since the authors told us about the spinoff series 'Gideon's Riders'. I absolutely loved the Beyond series and devoured every book, more than once, and was very much looking forward to delve deeper into Sector One. This love story is truly beautiful, set in a dystopian time after the war. Kora and Ashwin are multi-dimensional characters, who are learning as much about themselves as we the reader are. Kora is smart, funny, independent and a badass doctor. At first, one might think that Ashwin is just this robotic killing machine, but it doesn't take long before we come to see him as he really is - human, flawed, and actually quite funny. There are nice glimpses into the characters we know and love from Sector Four as well. I am 100% hooked on this series and I cannot wait until the next book.

**I received an ARC in exchange for my HONEST opinion for this book**

I have been waiting to hear Ashwin's story ever since he first made an appearance in the O'Kane world of Kit Rocha's previous BEYOND series, and let me tell you, this book did not disappoint!! As an introduction book to a new series, Rocha gives a great background for both new and returning readers, while delivering a spectacular story line full of steamy moments, page turning drama, and enough characters in the background to keep us coming back for the rest of the series!!

As far as Ashwin and Kora... it's about time that they get their moment in the spotlight!! And what a moment it was... an unfeeling solider and a woman who does nothing but feel... can they make it work or will they continue to do nothing but hurt each other??

I couldn't put this book down. Amazing. I can't wait to meet the rest of Sector One!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars GIDEON's RIDERS BEGIN THEIR RIDE!!!! 8 March 2017

ASHWIN....what a fantastic beginning to the new Gideon's Riders series!!! Truthfully, I loved the Beyond series (from which Gideon's Riders is a spin-off) and was literally in the process of re-reading that series for the 3rd time, due to the final installment having just been released, so I was a little sad, but when I read that the first installment of the Gideon's Riders series was close to release date, I was more than thrilled.....And, because I love the Beyond series so much, I, honestly, had problems believing Gideon's Riders could possibly "measure up" to the Beyond Series.....I. WAS. SO. WRONG!!!
In the interest of full disclosure, my review will have references to the Beyond series (and I know that's sometimes frowned upon), but let me be perfectly clear....Gideon's Riders is not "Beyond 2.0," and although there is not as much sex and none of the debauchery, we enjoyed in Beyond, (because Sectors 4 & 1 are like night and day), there are some crossover references, so, in my honest opinion, since Gideon's Riders is an actual spin-off of the Beyond Series and begins after the events in the Beyond series takes place, I strongly recommend you read that series first, ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT MANDATORY......Obviously, Beyond is just a fantastic series, but more importantly, to your reading and enjoyment of ASHWIN, specifically, and the Gideon's Riders series, in general, you knowing the history between the characters, the sectors and the city of Eden will bring another whole dimension to your reading experience and enjoyment of this book/series.....This is just my personal opinion, as is my review....
ASHWIN, tells us exactly who Lieutenant Ashwin Malhotra and Dr. Kora Bellamy are, why they are the way they are, and, best of all, why Ashwin is so "intensely" obsessed (and I'm NOT speaking of obsessed in a stalker-ish sense--I realize that's not an actual word--with Dr. Kora Bellamy), and we or, at least, I could never have guessed the answers to these questions....which is why we have another good book, by Kit Rocha, and I can already see another fantastic series ahead in Gideon's Riders....I can't stress enough the intensity of Lt. Ashwin Malhotra!! And in a love story, we all know that's nearly ALWAYS a good thing!!!!
ASHWIN takes place in Sector 1 which is considered the "spiritual" sector, where Gideon Rios (who, to his people, is a cross between royalty and the deity) leads his sector with love, peace and good works...While he and Dallas O'Kane believe they are total opposites, it appears they are more alike than either would ever admit. They are both sector leaders who love their devoted followers, will do whatever it takes to protect them and the way of life in which each of their sectors believes and has chosen to live their lives. They just have different "methods" as to how to get those jobs done, and they both have a "ride or die" "army" of devoted followers who would die for their leader and vice versa...........
This may be a different sort of love story than we read every day, but it is a beautiful and "love conquers all" love story, between Lieutenant Ashwin Malhotra, who was specifically "made" to be one of the city of Eden's "perfect soldiers," and the strong, sweet and kind Dr. Kora Bellamy, (who, by the way, may not be completely "normal" either.). We were given several glimpses of Ashwin's "intense differences" (You may remember the favor repayment he made Lorenzo Cruz honor in regard to Kora's protection from himself.) He and Kora have been in love for years, although neither can acknowledge or admit it....As an added hurdle, when ASHWIN begins, Kora believes Ashwin died in the big war, between the city of Eden and the sectors, but Ashwin's superiors have given him the mission of infiltrating Gideon's Riders, in the sector of which she is a part, but when Ashwin and Kora are in the same vicinity, nothing else matters to either of them....but each matter how hard they fight it....and they do...
I hope I haven't told you too much, but I loved this book, I can't wait to read the stories about the rest of Gideon's Riders. Deacon is next!!!
Thanks, Kit, for the beginning to another great series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joy! 8 March 2017
By Erin S. Burns - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I received an ARC of this book from the author, this does not affect my opinion of this book or the content of my review. I also bought it, because I love it.

Do you know what I have been missing in my reading life? Legitimate joy. Joy which I finally found again. I have been waiting for this man’s book since his very first appearance. He is all kinds of chilly and just my kind of damaged hero catnip. Seriously, I referred to him in my last review as “my cuddly wuddly little Maiko shark“. I am not saying there is nothing wrong with me, I am just saying that Ashwin is one stone cold heart-breaker in the best of ways. If you are a fan of Nalini Singh’s Judd, Kaleb, or Vasic, this will be right up your alley too. He’s colder and more pragmatic like Kaleb, but dropped into the emotional and caring culture like Judd was, with a little more depth like Vasic.

Now, this IS the start of the spinoff series, and I think you CAN read this one apart from the other series (though I think everyone who likes erotica should read the other series), but it does add a little something to it if you have read the other series. However, if the more in depth erotica-ness of the previous series wasn’t your cup of tea, then jump on in over here, because the water is nice and warn…but not too warm. No menages, no voyeurism, none of the overt BDSM elements, just good old fashioned super smexy times romance (but not boring smexy times either if you know what I mean).

So what is going on is this. The previous series chronicled the start through the end of the war in a post-apocalyptic dystopian. It was kind of like the Hunger Games in that there was a greedy capital that sucked the life out of the other sectors and pitted them against each other. Now we are seeing the rebuilding phase of this world. Basically that is all you HAVE to get from the previous series, though Kora and Ashwin were minor albeit integral characters in the other series.

It has been 6 months since the end of the war. Kora had left her cushy but emotionally unfulfilling life in the capital to work as a doctor in the Sectors. Her and Ashwin were parted at the end of the last series and Kora has grieved for Ashwin while she has been working in Sector One. When he pops back up it was, needless to say, quite the shock. And it hasn’t exactly been the most fun 6 months of Ashwin’s life either. Ashwin is there to join up with the Riders, the protectors in the religion that Sector One had come up with and what has turned into the stabilizing new force in the post war culture. Sector Four’s irreverant devli may care attitude was enough to push for and win the war, but what is needed now is more a culture of home and family and peace. This naturally causes some consternation in what is left of the capital, and decisions have been made to monitor and perhaps influence the growing power. So there are intrigues and conspiracies, and the left over power structures in the capital aren’t as neatly severed as one might like. And we can definitely start to see where the future conflicts are going to come from in the world at large.

As far as relationship conflicts go though, this one was kind of a doozy, and Ashwin screwed up royally. Can I blame him? Not exactly, because there is a ton of subtext and personal past history going on, but then, I am not the one he screwed over either.

Dude, I am screwing this review up though, because all I want to do is squee and gush over the entire plotline…which would completely spoil things. So I will just say that I LOVED it. I loved how Kora has plans and hopes and dreams for herself separate from any man-and that she has plans to continue her path even with Ashwin in her life. I love how she gets MAD. I loved Ashwin, from cold and hard to emotional as he changes and grows; and I want to see more of that arc in future books. And I loved how they were together. They were sexy and sweet and they fought and made up, and they knew that it would be building a family, that their relationship would take work. And they are all in on making it work.

I have actually re-read this one already, and foresee rereading this many happy times in the future. So seriously, buy the book,, I just really want people to buy and read it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot resist the excellent world-building, great emotional arc of the hero/heroine-- and those sexy, tattooed riders! 2 May 2017

Oh dear...this book was crack. And it's the start of a series. Years ago I checked out Kit Rocha's Beyond series about a biker gang in a dystopian/post-apocalyptic world-- and found it not entirely to my taste. I like a little bit of plot and character building in between the gratuitous sexxoring, thank you.

Either Kit Rocha got better, or they're gearing this series more to my taste. This is more post-apocalyptic urban fantasy. It's excellent. Ashwin is a Makhai-- a bio-engineered solider who's been told he has no feelings and in fact been tortured into forgetting the heroine-- Kora, who's a healer under the protection of Sector One's ruling family the Rios (this is set in the same world as the Beyond series which provides a rich, tantalizing depth of backstory and world building that is the solid, solid backbone for this story).

I love, love, love the Riders-- bikers who are guardians and all super-lethal hot men (and one woman). They protect refugees in Sector One and have a tattoo/art/joyful religion that is interesting (priestesses tattoo you with the pictures you deserve) and they provide exactly the right temptation for Ashwin: a place of belonging.

The book starts with the relationship between Kora and Ashwin already quite far along due to backhistory from the other series, but I loved it. So many issues they bring to the relationship, and while there's a tiny, tiny bit of the dominance/submission flavor of the Beyond series, this is far more about Ashwin learning to trust his feelings and Kora allowing herself to love Ashwin than anything else.

I have a bad, bad feeling I'm going to have to go buy the whole series.
5.0 out of 5 stars Sector One is as wonderful as Sector Four! 8 March 2017

I received an ARC copy of this book. But please note I also did buy a copy of this book…because well I have been waiting and waiting and waiting to read Ashwin and Kora’s story. This book is a “spin off” into another series kinda, more like moving to the next town over and still getting to visit your friends.

Kit Rocha has created a world I love to visit and revisit. This book is after a war and people are trying to find their footing again. Particularly two people (Ashwin & Kora) whose lives were controlled by so much prior now have an opportunity to be free with each other.

Ashwin is something more or less then human, depends on how you look at it. Kora is all feeling, I was glad this book brings her to light, she has been in the shadows for a while and Ashwin makes her shine, this book shows you her through his eyes and vice versa. Basically, this book has got enough obsession and yearning to be agonizingly sweet. And you will want to keep reading.

I don’t want to ruin anything about this book as it’s just a fantastic read. I hope, if you haven’t been to any of the sectors you read this and realize you have to find out how they got here. Because by the end you will defiantly be yearning to hear more from Sector One.
5.0 out of 5 stars Never Disappointed 8 March 2017

When we were told we were leaving Sector 4 and moving on to another single Sector 1, leaving some friends behind some of us were not happy. I am here today to say we were so wrong. I am so tried of saying this is better than the book before but it really is. We have finally found so many answers to the world of the Sectors and of course caused more questions. The authors have created a desire to read series and look for more, never tiring of a series. Yet you can not call this a series because we have so many characters and different histories that merge together. We learn to love the rascal and yearn for the knowledge of each characters history.
This is a love story of the future and the past. He will do anything for her just as we hoped he would get a chance to. He has tattoos like the boys of 4 and the backbone and character of those we love. It will cause to either re-read or become a follower of Kit Rocha. What a marvelous book they have created. Pulling in all the strings to create a world we have seen through a shadow glass and what a present. Brotherhood and sisterhood is alive and well. I can not begin to te you the surprises around every corner.i think this new book is a bit of a nail bitter but then again it is the Sectors, you can expect the unexpected. We love it an cannot wait for the next book of the Riders.
