This is EXACTLY the book I have been waiting for after reading and listening to and re- reading the Solar Clipper series.
It is so good to be following some of the old characters so cruelly cut off after book four.
Can't wait until Stacie turns up again (surely Ismael will need her where they are going) and see if the author makes anything of Ish and Christine.
Stayed up to 2:30am reading it ....

Nathan Lowell has done his usual fine work with this novel.
Ishmael wang is a very well-rounded character, with just as many trials and triumphs as the rest of us. Having devoured the rest of the solar clipper tales multiple times, it was fantastic to sit down and while away a few quiet hours with a new one, and I already can't wait for my next fix.
Well done Mr Lowell, carry on.

Go back and read the original traders tale series first. This one feels like a prequel for the next series.

I enjoyed this book a little less than the original two trilogies. Although the author has made an effort to summarise the history if you had not listened or read the other books you would feel a little confused. My other grumble (which is probably not fair to the author) was that I was just getting into the book when it ended. It felt like scene 1 now I'm waiting for the rest of the performance.

I am so happy to be back in the world of the Solar Clippers and Ishmael Wang. Along with the wonderful Captain Wang, Nathan Lowell brings us a glimpse of other characters we have loved and Pip! This is a great set up for the new series, but please start at the beginning and read Quarter Share to get the full effect.

Smooth writing style continues In this follow on to the original series. Interest filled story about life set in space. Lowell digs into what makes people tick and cleverly weaves his tale. Intrigue, friendships and hopefully more books to come!

Another classic Nathan Lowell antidote to lasers, missiles and alien invasions.
I enjoyed the first Solar Clipper series exactly because it was a story about 'ordinary' people doing 'ordinary' things in an 'ordinary' universe. The way Nathan tells the story gets you hooked and the characters all feel real.
Looking forward to anything Nathan produces.

Mr Lowell writes with passion about ordinary people who achieve more than expected. His stories give the hope of more for all of us. Thank you for bringing back Ishmael Wang.

This is a series i have enjoyed more than most.
It turns the Dark into somewhere that humans can live.
I will now have to go back and reread the series whilst i wait the next chapter.

The thing that grates is that this supposed to be set 350 years in the future. Sure there's some rockets and stuff but otherwise 2370 just feels like contemporary America. Try winding the clock 350 years in the other direction and you get to 1670. Bit different from 2020. There's nothing in this tale to indicate that three and a half centuries have passed.
The opening third of the book just about drowns in folksiness but the tempo picks up a bit after that, and it reads smoothly enough to the end, but it's all just scene setting for the inevitable sequel(s)
This was also suggested to me as space opera. "Zirn left unguarded …" (Robert Sheckley) is space opera, "In Ashes Born" is not.

I cannot recommend this book enough, Nathan Lowell has a way of writing that draws you in and doesn't let go until the story has taken a pause.
The return of Ish and others from his recent and far past, just adds to the enjoyment.
If you have never read any of his Solar Clipper books before, you can read this without knowing the history. But your enjoyment and understanding of the storyline as a whole will be greatly improved if you read the previous Share series.

This should really be the last in the series. I read it as 'book 1' and there were a lot of references to people and events that didn't make sense.
Once I had read the rest of the series (sometimes halfway through the night, it's that good ! ) then it all made sense and I'm now reading the 'In ashes born ' again and am able understand all of the remarks at the start of the book.
I found the whole series impossible to put down from start to finish.
Just so sorry it finished and I'm sure there will be more from Capt. Wang

Declaration of bias. i have loved Nathan Lowell's works for years. i downloaded the Solar Clipper series from Podiobooks and still come back to them regularly because the stories are engaging and he has the most wonderful voice. i also have the Tanyth Fairport books on my Kindle which are 'comfort reading' when i'm feeling down or am ill.
It is set in a well constructed SF universe but doesn't spend pages explaining imaginary science.. the characters are well drawn and believable.
it would be possible to read this book without having read the previous Solar Clipper series but i urge you to read or listen to them first, if only to make sense of the coffee references. Although this book is concerned with setting the groundwork for a new series about Ishmael Horatio Wang and friends (and enemies), the story held my attention and left me with just one question. When is the next one in the series going to be published?

I agree with other reviewers that although it is a stand alone, to understand it fully you need to have read the other series. I was so glad to get another story about Ishmael and his friends. It was a very moving story and I am waiting impatiently for the next installment. Glad to see Pip again in this book.
