We know Asher is married from previous books but no one speaks of his wife Ember. They were two kids who met, fell in love and had a baby at 15. They were each other’s firsts and loved each other fiercely until they couldn’t.
“Just hold me a little while.”
I hug her tighter. “I’ll hold you forever.”
I have been intrigued by Ember's story throughout the A & E series, however this story was more than I could have ever expected.
I knew going in that this was going to be an emotional story, however I was not expecting the toll this was going to take on me. I wanted to turn each page, however I had to put it aside a time or two to give myself a breathe.
Asher was all killer, no filler. The reader does not get a break from what is happening, so make sure you are ready to be mentally exhausted as you keep reading.
This is a story that I feel that the reader needs to just dive in and ride the wave - and make sure they have a strong grip, as they are going to need it. IT is raw, gritty andd powerful.
Asher is everything any woman (or man) could ask for in a partner. I loved seeing more of the Valentine extended family as I was reading.
I will love this book twice - now and forever
During the 8 years of her absence, Asher concentrated on raising their daughter and caring for his wife while praying for a miracle. Fortunately, it did come but at what price?
Ember is awake but has no recollection of her past. A gut-wrenching reality for everyone involved. Asher wants his wife back at any cost, while Ember feels like an impostor. Can she put her faith in the one man who never wavered at her side while she finds herself?
This was hard to read in parts. Watching Asher bend over backwards to help his wife regain her memory. Trying everything to reconnect and getting Ember to fall back in love with him again. It was devastating. Meanwhile Ember's amnesia made her detached and inhospitable. It would take something extraordinary and questionable to lead them back to each other.
Bloody hell, I knew this book was going to ruin me. This was a slow journey for two people who once had achieved eternal love. A man who never lost faith and allowed his heart's song to keep him strong and resilient throughout. Asher was certainly the standout for me. At times I had to dig deep for sympathy towards Ember. Her actions were hard to swallow. If true love exists, it's this.

The depth of feelings and understanding of TBI was without doubt proves the level of research This author went to. She puts her heart and soul into the story of Asher and Ember. She takes us on a journey of recovery with the rollercoaster emotions of learning to love the new you when the trauma is so deep as TBI, like ripples on a pond affecting everyone, family friends and loved ones.
The beautiful story of Asher and Ember was worth every minute of the wait. Carian has done herself proud with this. One book I would recommend to anyone!
I loved every moment and felt the introduction of characters we know and love (or hate - Sydni!) from Carian's other books was a bonus.
I think I'll now re-read Torn so that I can remind myself of all the clues to Asher's and Ember's story, then I'll read Asher again.
Carian has held out a teaser telling us Jude's story will be next. Can't wait.😉
This author is wonderfully talented and never disappoints. I envy anyone who discovers Carian's writing for the first time.
Ashers determination to hold on to a smallest piece of ember was just raw, undefeated love.
I could read this beautiful book all in one go, I needed to stop and refocus and put myself in both their shoes.
Carian Cole you have surpassed yourself, it was like I was in the book with them, just hoping all will be perfect; and it is.
The wait was so so worth it. Now going in again to really truly embrace Asher and Embers love.
