a stand alone read with a HEA. I read this book back in 2012. I didn't review it because I didn't know how. But, I loved the book and wanted to add my review to this author's book. I have 30 of her books so I really enjoy this author. This one is set in the days of the plantation, arranged marriages and some rather bizarre things occur. The hero and the heroine are thrown into a rather sticky situation and it is tough to find a way out but love prevails. It is a very good story and I definitely recommend it. Lots of Louisiana history and scenery are thrown in for good measure. A good read

19C Louisiana. Katrine Castlereagh's lot in life is to be wife to a wealthy plantation owner. Problem is, her husband is older and impotent, and what do you do when you want your wife to produce an heir? Why hold a medieval tournament with the champion getting the very best prize of all - although Katrine's not too fond of the whole idea. Into this muddle comes Rowan de Blanc, who believes Katrine is responsible for his half brother's death, and he aims to make her pay.

This being a romance novel and all you can pretty much guess where the story is going, although Blake does manage to slip a few twists and turns in to keep you guessing until the end. There's a fair bit of sex included, although IMHO Blake is classy enough to keep it from feeling smutty. While this wasn't an OMG best book ever, I did enjoy it and would pick it up again when I'm in the mood for a lighter read.

It took me a long time to get into this story. It seems to start off wrong. I wondered if maybe there was a story before this one that would explained the beginning. I read the book to the end. Usually I can tell someone what happened. This time I had to force myself to remember what happened. Not a great book to read again. Just an ok story.

I give kudos to any writer.... it's very difficult to put your ideas & imagination on paper. But Blake makes what I've found to be a common mistake among many writers..... longer DOES NOT mean better. This was a solid story w/a lot of twists & turns but it was about 100 pages too long. Before the end, I was losing interest. There wasn't any "action" between the main characters until almost the end so I found myself "skipping" pages to find out the conclusion which was a shame b/c it was a good story. I agree w/another reviewer for the amount of pages this story took, the ending was rushed & incomplete. If you're looking for a descriptive tale w/little heat but solid story telling, this is it.

I always enjoy Jennifer Blake novels, and I liked ARROW TO THE HEART, but not as much as some of her other books. I found the pace very slow for most of the book and then the ending was rushed. Also, the sex scenes, when Rowan and Katrine FINALLY got going, were too drawn out and the language was so flowery that I just skimmed through them. The mysterious murderer and the plot twists were very intriguing and really surprised me when they were revealed. The Court of Love was way too philosophical for me but that is a matter of personal taste and it doesn't surprise me that many people liked it. This was a very nice book to read if you like historical romances so I do recommend it if you like that genre.
