Product description

Product Description

Jake Melkins is a few months away from turning twenty-one. By the Seceltor Empire’s laws, he will have to go to a breeding camp, or directly into slavery. Neither choice appeals to him. All this changes with the arrival of a space-and-time-traveling being known as Evaran at the space station turned rest stop that Jake lives on.

To make things complicated, Greecho, the slaver who abducted Jake as a kid, has arrived at the station. He and his crew, along with his twenty-two-year-old human pet, Kathy, are about to go on a slave run to Earth.

Evaran has decided to interfere and free Jake and Kathy. That decision will lead him to Earth, where he will need to deal with the consequences.

This one was a bit of a disappointment for me. The story wasn't bad, but for some reasons, it felt unpolished and a little bit rushed. When I bought this prequel, a bundle of the three first books of the series was on special so I bought that too. I really hope it gets better.

Characters: I liked Evaran, a mysterious man with all kinds of gadgets and maybe a little over confident. I also felt for Jake, a human taken as a slave by Greecho, a slaver with no scruple, and Jells, his 'adopted' father. I also liked the idea of vampire aliens, but Lord Noskov seemed to have come out of nowhere. I'm guessing we'll see more of him and his friends in the series itself. (At least, I hope we'll do.)

Story itself was fun. The idea of aliens abducting humans for slavery and reproduction was great, but then again, it seemed to have been put together a little too fast, kind of like an afterthought. While this story introduces us to the rest of the series, the author might have done himself a disservice. I my opinion, a prequel should never be rushed. It's the door to the series after all. What makes it or breaks it.

Over all, not exactly what I expected but not a bad read. I still have hope for the rest of the books I bought.

Where did Evaram come from and how old is he are not answered in this story. However, you don't want to miss the information about almost everything else that is in this story. Many new and different ways of the most unlikely and horrible things continue to happen. The aliens are constantly being used by the enemy forces of the strongest to achieve their goals. Slavery is not looked upon as the correct way to make a buck by the better aliens. But, sometimes the most unlikely and horrible things continue to happen.
