She is supported in this struggle by an US-American football player (named Brant Asher) who inherited an English titel (Viscount). To inherit the estate and money of the late Viscount he has to marry Daphne though. Otherwise the belongings would be lost to both of them and go to a third party.
He first thinks Daphne to be ugly and somehow useless. His view of her is altered though when he sees her in person. Neither is she ugly nor is she shy (at least not with him). When someone else joines them (except her Aunt Cleo) she is the shy person she was before she met him.
I think this was a very touching and emotional story. Though the scenery and the characters weren't that vivid, they were likeable all the same. The story had no mystery but it was nonetheless suspensefull, since one wanted to know if or how she would change, what she would accomplish and how he would act or react. It was clear that they cared for each other, but they had to face some problems and differences nevertheless.
