Product Description

One does not simply walk onto another planet. At least not without the help of a daughter who has developed unlikely powers, fought an intra-dimensional war, and then arranged for a family relocation to a futuristic clone of Earth. Laura Devlin would gladly have paid any price to have her daughter back, so living in a techno-paradise with spaceship views is merely an added bonus. And a dream come true.

But Arcadian paradises do not come without complications. Laura's include a plethora of psychic grandchildren. Interplanetary diplomacy. Her daughter's immense fame. And KOTIS, the military watchdog that seems to consider Laura's entire family government property.

Forewarned by her daughter's experiences, Laura had anticipated as many problems as she could, and didn't doubt her ability to cope with the rest. But she had not planned on Gidds Selkie, a military officer 'chipped from flint' and not at all the sort of man lifelong geek Laura had ever imagined would find her interesting.

Burned in the past, Laura is surprised to find herself tempted. Is this a new start to go with a new world? Or a mismatch doomed to failure?

---

This is a slice-of-life fade-to-black romance that's takes you to a different planet and ponders 'what next?'. It can be read as a backstory-heavy stand-alone, but with inevitable spoilers for the Touchstone Trilogy.

Loved the story line and how Cass's family fited into Arcadia. What will happen with earth nxt will it survive. Very down to earth in the emotions of people. Really am hooked on this series. A great read about how life goes on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book 5...now waiting hopefully for book 6. 6 January 2017

I'll admit that I will read anything in this series, and felt like I had received a belated Christmas present when the book was released. I love the original characters (Kaoren etc.) so much that I kept perking up any time they came into the story. It isn't Ms. Host's fault that I wished to see more of the other characters, just a reflection of how much I liked them. I think it must have been hard to create a story for Laura that didn't lean too heavily on the story established in books 1-4, and she did a great job of incorporating elements without being lazy about it. It was lovely to understand the depth of the main characters, who were more peripheral in the original trilogy. So- the book was great, and I have my fingers crossed for more: Par Aurion, Glade, Zan, Any and all would be fantastic.

4.0 out of 5 stars just two people falling in love and exploring their connection 2 January 2017
By Sarah Wynde - Published on Amazon.com

If you're a fan of the Touchstone series, you'll want to read this book. It continues the series, telling the story of Cass's mom's first year on Muina. It's no spoiler to say that she gets involved with Tsur Selkie -- that was revealed in the 4th book of the series -- so this is their story. It's very much a romance. There's not much tension, no real danger, just two people falling in love and exploring their connection. As the author's blog post about it said, it's a "slice of life". But it's a pleasant read, and lovely to spend more time in Muina. I can only give it 4 stars because it ended with a mental wail of disappointment for me -- minor spoiler, but there's next to nothing about Zan in it, who is the character I most hoped to spend more time with. Still, I'm sure I will reread it and I will certainly buy the next book the day it releases, just as I did this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful sci-fi romance, gave me the warm and fuzzies 11 January 2017

This book's release was the best new year's present I could have hoped for, and it didn't disappoint. Before reading it I re-read the first three books of Touchstone, plus the Gratuitous Epilogue, but you don't have to, as long as you are willing to have the secrets of Touchstone spoiled for you, I think this works fine as a stand alone. Actually, I think it might be better not to read In Arcadia straight after reading the Gratuitous Epilogue because Arcadia's plot is outlined in the last few pages of the epilogue, so if that is fresh in your mind you know in general terms what is going to happen. But not how, and not the richness and depth In Arcadia brings to the Touchstone universe. Host has grown so much as a writer since Stray, and she brings all her craft to this warm hearted sci-fi romance between a grandmother and an old soldier, both much younger and more passionate and vital than the next generation believes, living in a world nicely balanced between utopia and dystopia figuring out what the middle act of their lives is going to be. I loved getting to know Laura and Gidds (who in my head canon is way more Alan Rickman than Clint Eastwood :-) and Sue and Julian and getting to know the giant pile of children the Epilogue left us with. And I loved the story of a lifelong fangirl like Laura finally getting to live her wildest fannish dreams. It finishes with a flourish that could definitely lead to a sixth volume, and if so I do hope we get some more of Laura's POV. And maybe Gidds' and Kaoren's as well?
4.0 out of 5 stars Satisfied to the point of tears. 19 June 2017

Ms. Host (I know, I'm missing the little dots above the "o"), thank you!

What a satisfying resolution to Cassandra's story. I love the world-building, the character development, all of it. While there were typos and missing punctuation marks, I paid them minor heed, as I just wanted to read the story. The writing has improved greatly, the characters have become even more alive and personable.
I would enjoy seeing snapshots of the characters' lives, well into the future - not necessarily taking a look at Earth's development with alien contact; but rather focusing on what happens to Shon, Selkie family, The Ruuel-Devlin individuals, Maze especially, and Zan - little mention of her, even though she DID factor into a lot of Cassandra's story.

I was very happy with the conclusion to this, though, and would gladly know that it was finished, while being ecstatic to know there's more coming. Truly, an up and coming author who has much vision.

While I have not read any of Ms. Host's other books, as I simply cannot afford them, I hope that her writing continues to inspire, thrill, and engage the reader, no matter what she writes.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is a wonderful story filled with exploring new parts of Munia 1 January 2017
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

This book is the fifth in the Touchstone series and is a change from the other four as it does not focus on Cass, instead on her mother. It takes up two months after Laura and the others have arrived on Munia and explores the relationship that develops between Tsur Selkie and herself. It is a wonderful story filled with exploring new parts of Munia, digital games and the relationships between a lot of the people we have come to know and love in the earlier books. Beautifully written with Andrea K. Hosts usual style it comes with some twists at the end which are fantastic to read about and I can only hope that there will be more in the series.
