I'm stunned to have bought this rum based on the 5 star reviews on here, only to find its terrible! It's on offer for £16 at the moment, which i think is in itself about the same price as lidl's own label rum, which it tastes about as bad as! Don't be fooled into buying this, it's sharp, tart and tastes cheap, even as a mixer its poor quality. If you want a decent cheap rum you are better off buying a well known brand like Havana Club, it's far, far more superior this this. Another reviewer said he thought it tasted more like whiskey, i would be inclined to agree with him. If i hadn't opened it i would return it, terrible.. avoid at all costs.
I am not a rum connoisseur but i have tried a few different rums and this is the best i have tasted so far, it is nice on it's own or mixed, you can get cheaper so called 'navy' rums but compared to this, they are rubbish. It is a good price and i will definitely be buying again. If you like rum, try it you will not be disappointed.
This rum tastes a little like a rum/whiskey hybrid with very little sweetness. It's gives a sharp tang in the mouth with a hit of a hot afterburn. I drink both rum and whiskey neat with no ice ruining them and have drank lots of both over the years. Pampero is a better budget rum in my view but this is a good value shelf buy for them times when I fancy something "different". If you like rum and whiskey grab a bottle. If you are a rum purist maybe look elsewhere.
I fell in love with Appleton rum when I visited the plantation in Jamaica. Its a smooth, slightly sweet, expertly blended spirit. Lovely on its own or great as an alternative to whisky in an old fashioned.
A great ‘standard’ mixing rum. Brilliant for Mai Tai’s. Great value for £15. There are better rums for drinking neat (like Pusser’s gunpowder rum) but this is perfect for mixing, still has plenty of flavour.
Not a very nice rum. As a person that likes tasting rum, this one is not one of the good ones. Strangely it has a real hint of whisky, which maybe something to do with the barrels, but it really takes the flavour too far away for my taste.
It's ok if you drown it in diet coke but on its own over ice it's......... Bleugh! Having spent a lot of time in the Caribbean, drinking their 151 etc, this would have only been used to start a barbecue! Utter waste of money.
