Amazon calculates a product’s star ratings using a machine learned model instead of a raw data average. The machine learned model takes into account factors including: the age of a review, helpfulness votes by customers and whether the reviews are from verified purchases.
I live in Australia. I have an Echo Plus and an Echo Show 5. I also have an Apple Music (Australia) subscription. This skill works fine, but both of my devices have to have the language (just language, not location or anything else) set to English US, or it doesn't work properly. With it set to English (Australia) there is limited functionality - eg I can say play Apple Music and it works, but I can't pick a genre, an artist or a song. As soon as I set it English (US) everything works as it should. I should note I have an Australian accent, not an American one. Should be an easy bug to fix, but until then I'll just get used to Alexa responding to me with a twang.
I have purchased 3 Echo Plus, 2 Subwoofer, 6 Echo dots, Ring and other at least 5 other security system components because I backed Amazon technology ecosystem in the IoT space... And I can’t use the simple skill of paying my over $100/yr Apple Subscription. Nor can my very annoyed family members. I’m a 30+ yr IT guy, so this is ridiculous. Plays Amazon Music just fine ...So what is it Amazon Alexa team???
I am, like another reviewer listed here, an Australian- is there an issue because of the accent - no, I’ve written apps using Alexa. I can ask Alexa to “Alexa list my playlists on Apple Music”, and it picks a station at random. I ask “Alexa play <named> playlist on Apple Music”, and it says “Sorry, I’m having trouble connecting to Apple Music”.
...So team PLEASE, PLEASE for the sake of your Amazon (clearly in my case) loyal customers, fix what is fundamentally a flaw in this VERY VERY basic skill.
At the end of the day, Apple brought digitally played music en masse to the world over 10 yrs ago. I have been a PC guy all my life until 3 years ago when I lost my arm. So I look for things to make my life more comfortable, and protect my family.
This “Skill” in MHO should have been thoroughly tested as well as having multiple command sets, even though you are trying to compete by bringing your own (Music as a Service ala Amazon Music Unlimited), MaaS subscription model.
I am a Prime member and believe that you are leaders here, but Apple was the Music King till iTunes was recently torn apart.
I will happily update my review should I be wrong or you fix it. Send me the code, and I’ll do it for you! Thank you Steve. ...should you not read this, I will begin posting/warning other people in technology fora and writing about the issue; e.g. Reddit/TechRadar/Medium/...you get the idea.
