I found I was getting tired of the Caribbean setting as I got into this book. The series seems to have gotten bogged down in the tropics. I wanted Patricia Moyes to return to England with her plots. Or even the United States. The descriptions of gorgeous island scenery, smiling natives, and happy holiday sailors was beginning to bore me.
But Angel Dust turns is eventually full of action and exciting scenes on land and at sea. Another plus is Emmy, Chief Inspector Tibbett’s wife, who show great resourcefulness and courage in helping her husband out of deep trouble.
The plot concerns the drug trade and organized crime. Abductions and murder add to the excitement. But in general I prefer domestic crime to international crime. No matter. I’m reading every book in this series regardless. All of them are cleverly contrived and have surprises to offer. Angel Dust is worth reading, if not the best book in the series.
