I couldn't blame him for thinking the worst of her either. She didn't tell him why she was apparently a gold-digger, but soon she is forced to pay for what he believed of her when her hubby dies. His reasons for using her seemed a bit far-fetched as there were probably better ways to rid him of that nuisance, however, it was a way to get Nikki into his sphere. Not sure that he could have evicted her as quickly as he claimed either, but she believed it. It did get annoying that Nikki continuously told Massimo that she hated him, but then she had the nerve to not want his hate of her! Until he finds out the truth about her reasons he doesn't always believe the best of her and this is to his own detriment at times. He calls their coming together as making love she says the other but he claims it amounts to the same - question then why do the strayers make it out to be such different things? Overall I liked their angst ridden love story and liked that Nikki did stand up to him when she finally walked. It seemed that Massimo was forgiven for his final transgression rather quickly, but then Nikki did hurt him several years before so perhaps it balances out?
Nikki and Massimo shared one magical week. The two fell in love, but Nikki was already promised to another man. The next day she married the man she was promised too. To her shock Massimo showed up to the wedding. That is when she found out she had just married his step father.
5 years later her husband died, and Massimo is there at the funeral. He has waited 5 long years for his revenge. To Nikki's shock, her husband signed over everything to Massimo before he died. Now she is left with nothing. Massimo makes her a offer she can't refuse. He will pay all of her debt off if she becomes his mistress. Nikki has a brother that requires 24/7 health care. The home he is in is very expensive. She will do anything for her brother. Even if it means living with someone that hates her.
There was never really hate between the couple. Sure they screamed at each other, and said cruel words, but the love they had shared 5 years before was still there burning strong. Sometimes revenge turns into the forever kind of love.
There are books that just leaves you with a smile, and makes you sigh a happy sigh. This is just one of those books. This review does not do this book justice. This is one of those must reads.
