I bought this book for a friend (no, really!) but as I know the author through work, I wanted to read it myself too before gifting it. And of course, like most people, I'm not a stranger to anxiety either so any tips on dealing with it are welcome. David isn't a neuroscientist or psychologist but arguably he's even more qualified to write this book because he's suffered from crippling anxiety himself and used the techniques he writes about to recover. The book is based in hard science that David walks through with the reader in an easy conversational way. He shares his own experiences with anxiety candidly, and uses the word 'We' when describing people with anxiety which really makes you feel like you're chatting with a friend who understands - and David clearly does.
The prevailing theme throughout is 'Stop fighting it' which is deceptively simple advice. David walks through many different scenarios and how you can use this strategy to change the internal narrative to something more helpful, and break the endless loop of anxious thoughts. He's not offering an overnight fix, he's offering an effective long term management strategy. This book should be included in the arsenal of anyone who struggles with anxiety.
