Come back to Burton!

If you fell in love with this quirky Georgia town in THE ONE Trilogy, you'll want to return for this trilogy and catch up with your favorite characters . . .

Maureen Evans has had a crush on Smith Harrington since they were in college together. She always knew he didn’t see her as anything more than his best friend—just one of the guys—but that didn’t stop her from weaving sexy fantasies about him.

Now, after years of maintaining a long-distance friendship, Smith’s moving to Burton, Georgia, Maureen’s hometown, to become her partner at the veterinary clinic. After all this time, she should be able to handle working with him without getting hot and bothered.

Or maybe not.

The more determined Maureen is to maintain their just-friends bond, the more Smith seems intent on testing those boundaries. And when flirting crosses the line into something more, it ends in a night neither of them can forget.

When friendship is no longer enough, there’s always love.

This book returns to the town of Burton, Georgia. I love a good series that follows the lives and loves of families and friends, which is why i can't reccommend this book enough. This story would be great as a standalone story but having read Tawra's other books in "The One" series where many character from this series were first introduced, there is a depth to the characters as you continue to read about their lives.
I loved how this book incorporated the story of Smith and Maureen's past friendship. Reading from both points of view gives us an idea of what they are both thinking and feeling. A lovely story about the time being right and a second chance at love.
I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

I fell in love with Burton all over again!

Maureen and Smith have sparks of chemistry all over the place. This story wrapped me all up, in, and around the characters. I had so much fun getting inside their heads, reading their inner dialogue, and seeing the struggles they each had with their feelings. I couldn't help myself, and had to literally laugh out loud throughout the book. This was both fun to read, and made me smile as my heart smiled at the sweet and tender moments. The steamy moments made me want to fan myself just a little. I absolutely loved this book, and couldn't put it down from the moment I started it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy to Be Back in Burton!! 25 November 2015

Isn’t this cover so cute? I think it really embodies Maureen, Smith, and of course the dog. We briefly met Maureen in the first set of Burton books (I’m so happy to be back in Burton) and even then I was interested in her story.

Maureen really hit home with me since I had the same situation with my now husband. She is oblivious to Smith’s feelings because she thinks there is no way that incredibly hot guy could care about her even though it is obvious to everyone around her that he did.

Maureen was naive and felt she wasn’t worthy for anyone especially someone like Smith, she thought she was forever friend-zoned. Sometimes we need someone to show us that we are worthy. Don’t worry, Maureen was never whiny and she is not weak by any sense. She has a veterinary practice, strong relationships with family and friends but she was unlucky in love. I loved how the book went back to show Smith and Maureen in college too and we got to see the feeling develop.

2.0 out of 5 stars She was in love with Smith since first year of college but wasn't ... 22 July 2016

I really wanted to bop Maureen upside her head!! She was in love with Smith since first year of college but wasn't sure if he felt the same. OK...I get that, but her friend was trying to tell her that Smith seems to into Maureen, Smith even tries on thousands of occasions to invite her out, she turns him down claiming she has to study?!!! The one time she chose to go out with him she invites three other friends to go with her!! Geesh! Years later, she is like 30, and she is STILL trying to convince herself and everyone they're just friends but gets upset and runs off crying when Smith tells her all-of-a-sudden overprotective brother they're just really good friends!! Everyone knows they're in love with each other....but I liked Smith over Maureen even though I think he should have manned up before they were 30 to convince Maureen they were meant for each other....no action, no kissing, or sex or romance until the book was almost over 80 % done...wth?!

Maureen and Smith allow us to go back to small town Georgia and hang out with some of their friends in Burton. I like that they're both vets. And like animals, unlike the guy she dates for a while who cringes at the thought of being around fur babies.
Smith and Maureenare both chicken s***s about admitting their interest in one another ( to each other) until late in the book. You almost wonder if they deserve each other.
Although there's an excruciating wait, they finally fess up and enjoy one another sexually.

*There will be Spoilers*

Okay so this is the second book by Tawdra Kandle that I have read. There where things about it I liked and some that I didn't. I had a really hard time rating this book. While I really liked Mrs. Kandle's writing style, almost all of the characters, the town the book is set in, the plot concept, I didn't like the heroine Maureen. I didn't hate her or anything. I just found her weak, cowardly, insecure, and super immature. I felt bad for her really, but I didn't connect to her at all. The things she did in the book drove me crazy. The fact that in college after being in love with Smith for years, she goes to tell him her feelings at a party where she knew he went with a date, and when she sees some girl kiss him she runs off and gives away her virginity to a man she didn't even know the name of is just one of the things she did that had me cringing. I mean come on. Then years later as a 30 year old woman she dates a man she feels nothing for, just uses poor Tim because she thinks Smith just wants to be friends. I loved the hero Smith. Although I didn't really understand him waiting to tell her how he felt. I get everyone was telling him to let her date poor stupid Tim and woo her but really it was stupid advice if you ask me. I felt he should have just been honest. All the relationship angst was uncalled for. If they would have just pulled their heads out of their butts and been truthful. Smith's wooing was weak at best and if I was Maureen I would have been confused too. He wasn't clear at all so it wasn't all her fault. That being said honestly I didn't really feel like I was reading a romance. They didn't really have anything going at all until almost the end. My kindle read 82% when Smith finally told Maureen that he loved her and kissed her. After all that snail's pace slow build up they make love and then she is back to doubting and I am staring at my kindle going are you kidding me? Then they have a heart to heart where he tells her he real does love her didn't feel sorry for her and all is well the end at 94%. That's it all that super long waiting and barely a glimpse of a HEA. I felt cheated. I was left shaking my head. I didn't feel any of their relationship if that is what you call what they had. So there is my problem. I liked all the others, Smith, and everything that happened in the book but their relationship parts which wasn't really much anyways. I couldn't decide if I should give it a 2 or 3 star. I went with 2.5 stars and I rounded up, because I really did like the writing style and the way everyone talked and felt down to earth and real. I really kinda want to know more about the others. I think maybe just Maureen wasn't my kind of girl. I plan on giving this author another chance and reading one of the other couples story. Meghan and Sam maybe?
