First can I say I have been waiting on something new from Rhonda McKnight and boy did she deliver. Almost there reads like a novel, but is a prequel to a longer book. This prequel is the story of Benxi, Zane and Mekhi. Benxi is a singer from Tampico Georgia. She thinks by running away from a strict grandmother and some other things I'm not gonna mention that she can outrun her demons. Mekhi is music producer who thinks he can give Benxi her next big hit. And then there's Zane. Zane is a supermodel who is dealing with something but is trying so hard to hide it. Oh yeah, Mekhi was her boyfriend who she was obsessed with. Then there are secondary characters Cig who is Benxi's music producer. Zander, who is a rappper that is also Zane's brother. Then there is Grandma Lacy who is Benxi's grandmother. This is not your typical Rhonda Mcknight book. Its a great book and you can tell she stepped out of her comfort zone because these people are not saved and nowhere near being saved. I can not wait for Shame on You because Ms. Mcknight is going to bring this full circle and introduce them to the God like we know she can.
I love reading Rhonda’s work. She always find a way to grab your attention and lure you into the lives of her characters. These characters in this story held a lot of deep emotions; anger, resentment, rage, guilt. At times I couldn’t figure out who was more messed up than the other. This is what she does to make her characters real and interesting. I love how she switched from one character to another throughout the chapters in order to gain deeper insight on what’s happening. I found it as a good way to keep the story moving. There was so many twists and turns in each of the characters lives that it was actually hard for me to stay away from this book too long. I’m always wondering in the back of my mind, “What’s happening next, and to who?” I can not wait to read her next book. Great story, wonderful characters, and an amazing plot. Job well done!!
Once again Author Rhonda McKnight has produced another page turner. This isn't a book you can lay down , relax and read leisurely. I couldn't put it down it had me sitting up on the edge of my chair waiting to see what would happen next. It is the backstory from her book Righteous ways characters Music Producer Mekhi and Popstar Benxi. Benxi's producer Cig, Rapstar Zander and Zander's top model sister Zane who has some serious issues. We find out some of the skeletons in Benxi's closet. I can go on there is so much to tell. I can't wait for Shame on you.
This prequel cleared up some things about Benxi and why she is the way that she is. She is as broken as Sameria was in the first book of this series.
Mehki has issues too but my heart was caught up with Zannia. Wondering what her complex story is. Her brother, Zander has deep history with Mehki. What is the deal with that?
And how is Sameria going to play into all of this drama?
This prequel leaves the reader with a lot of questions.
And I enjoyed every bit of the intrigue. This was a great read, a perfect back story.
I promise you will not put this book down until the very end! Wow, Rhonda..you did your thing on this one! I have enjoyed all of the books in the Samaria Jacobs series, but this one here! You don't often get a backstory on the characters in books you love, but "Almost There" really opened my eyes to Mekhi, Benxi, Cig, Zanaire and Zander! I kinda want to go back and start all over with the series before "Shame on You" comes out!
This is a very easy and quick read and it does not disappoint! Jacqueline White
