Product Description

Hailed by Jennifer Probst as a “sexy, heartfelt story,” this sweet military romance reunites a headstrong dancer and a rugged army soldier after one steamy encounter tears them apart.

As a dancer who creates mesmerizing visions onstage, Neve James is looking for the same kind of stability in her love life. Her pen pal, Rory McRoy, is on leave from deployment in Afghanistan, so she heads to Boston to surprise him. After corresponding for months as part of a “Support Our Troops” initiative—and exchanging dozens of “Read When You’re Alone” letters—Neve knows what Rory likes, and she intends to fulfill his every fantasy. But all they get are a few blissful moments together before they’re interrupted by a woman claiming to be Rory’s fiancée.

Rory has fallen hard for Neve’s letters. When he finally meets her in person, he has to have her, right then and there—until Neve takes off in a fit of anger. Forced to return to Afghanistan before he can fix things between them, Rory waits four agonizing months to prove that he’s not the man Neve thinks he is. But by the time he arrives in New York, she’s already made up her mind. Luckily, Rory never backs down from a challenge, and he’s prepared to put everything on the line for love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Who wouldn’t like a sexy pen pal 19 October 2015
By LAB - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Who wouldn’t like a sexy pen pal? Because of a mix up, Neve becomes the pen pal to Rory, a soldier stationed in Afghanistan. Even with the first letter she wrote, you can feel her naughty, sexy, flirty side. When Rory comes home for leave, Neve decides to treat him to one of his fantasies he wrote about in his letters. They have one hot tryst in his parent’s storeroom. Unfortunately, it is interrupted by Mary, his “fiancée” …or is she. Needless to say Neve is angry. In her first letter to Rory, before she decided to get naughty, she asked him if he was one of those “amoral dog types” who would cheat on his girl. Fast forward a year. After their encounter, Rory hasn’t been able to stop thinking about her so after getting out of the Army, he unexpectedly shows up on her door step. When Neve becomes ill, she reluctantly lets Rory stay to take care of her. She knows she has to get her strength back as she has an audition for Cirque de Soleil. This has been her dream. Of course they both have some issues to resolve. Roy has issues with PTSD and Neve has feelings of abandonment by her mother. But together, they help each other work on healing. This is the sort of love story you don’t see too much of today. They actually get to know each other through their letters before engaging in a physical relationship. Nor are they described as this tall, hot, steamy male, nor this curvy, tall, blond bombshell. If fact you feel like they are just normal everyday folks. Overall, this was a sold book, good story-line. Both characters were strong and well developed. It has humor interspersed throughout the book, especially the interaction in the parking lot (no spoilers). I like that there is not a lot of inner turmoil that takes away from the story. This makes the book easy to read and flow quickly and easily. The sex scenes are not that descriptive. I thought the ending was well done. I hope we get stories about Nate and the other McRoy brothers.

3.0 out of 5 stars All I Need is You 7 October 2015
By deb1210 - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
All I Need is You is a standalone novel in the Loving You series by Wendy S. Marcus. You do not have to read the other books in the series to enjoy this one. This book follows Neve and Rory as they start out pen pals and over time, it turns into so much more. Both have baggage that they must deal with and overcome, to have a shot at that elusive happily ever after we all dream about.

Neve is a dancer with an unhappy streak with men leaving her looking for love. Unfortunately her bad luck has her always choosing the bad boys. After some soul-searching, she decides to change her life and her luck with men, by enrolling in a military pen pal program.

Rory is the happy soldier stationed in Afghanistan paired up with Neve as a pen pal. The beginning letters are fun and romantic as they are getting to know one another. As their letters continue, a friendship forms and things become a bit more intimate and substantial. They tell each other their fears and fantasies as well as their secrets. As they comfort each other with their words, they are growing closer.

When Rory comes home on leave, Neve surprises him by coming to see him. He is excited to see Neve in person. Crap hits the fan though, when a girl claiming to be Rory's fiancée finds them in a compromising situation. Neve is devastated that Rory lied to her. She storms off and never talks to him before he ships off. Once Rory is home for good, he's motivated to find Neve and make things right. His world needs her in it. Period.

This story was one of mixed feelings for me. I love the beginning and the letters written to each other. They made me laugh and the "ones to be read alone" had me needing a cool drink after! The dual point of views were also a plus as I really like knowing what the characters are thinking and why they did something that they did. I also enjoyed the flashbacks that added to the story but didn't swamp it with too much information. My only beef? Neve and her screwed up way of turning around a situation. Although I don't think Rory was as thoughtful and understanding as he needed to be at times, it was mainly her that drove me crazy! That being said, I still enjoyed the story told. Relationships and happily ever afters are hard work and I am certain that's what the Wendy S. Marcus was striving for in writing All I Need is You.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this One!!! 15 October 2015

All I Need Is You was another great book by Wendy Marcus! I read the first book in the series and fell in love with the story and the characters, and I felt the same way about this one too! It followed the same premise as the first book, a pen pal program between a soldier and a girl. However, that’s where the similarities ended…the characters are completely different. The book begins with a letter Neve has written Rory. They start off a little innocent and tame, then they become spicy and naughty which Rory loves. As the two begin sharing intimate details of their past and their daily lives, their bond and connection grows. The two meet in person for the first time when he is on leave with a pretty hot hookup, but it ends with Neve running away after a misunderstanding. But, Rory is determined not to lose Neve after she has come to mean so much to him, but will she listen and give him another chance?

Both Rory and Neve are complex characters, but Neve has a lot of issues going on…abandonment, trust, just to name a few. With some books, all those things may distract and take away from the story, but not in Marcus’s very talented hands. She explores each issue deeply and with great sensitivity. Because of Neve’s past, she doesn’t always make the best decisions, and she could come across as a character you don’t much like. At times, I wanted to shake her, and ask her why she would do or say certain things, but as I got to know her like Rory did, I saw past the persona she wanted others to see, and saw the real Neve who was sweet, kind, and forgiving. Rory had issues stemming from his time in Afghanistan, and I loved how Neve was able to help him as he helped her. They became a couple I absolutely adored…they saw past each other’s faults and loved one another anyway! There are some twists and secrets that are revealed along the way that greatly affect Neve’s life, but I won’t go into detail…you’ll have to discover those yourselves…but they just add to the story.

I love a good military romance, and I love the fact that it goes deeper than just a sexy romance. Marcus does a great job of illustrating what a soldier goes through when they return home. I, myself, appreciate the sacrifice of each man and woman who serves this great country, but I didn’t really realize the trauma that some of them experience and how it affects their lives and the lives of their families. So, thank you, Wendy Marcus, of reminding me of what the word “sacrifice” truly means! I also want to add that you illustrated sacrifice in what Neve did as well concerning her half-brother…it really opened my eyes to that complicated procedure as well. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book about the effect of war and the importance of being in contact with those brave soldiers! 19 October 2015
By Itsy Bitsy Book Bits - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This is a great story about finding your soul mate in the most unusual of ways and when 2 people don’t seem alike they work finding out those are the best stories of them all.

Rory is a soldier on a year long tour in Afghanistan – he comes from a large Irish Boston family who still have all the family members live under one roof because they don’t like being away from each other. His family runs an Irish pub in South Boston and when Rory returns home he along with his brothers will work in the family business.

Neve is a gymnast/dancer who has a lot of baggage. She is looking for redemption and one way for her to do that is to volunteer as a pen pal and write to a solider who is over seas and she gets Rory. Her family is unconventional to say the least and she is looking for a new start anyway she can get it.

During the 8 months they wrote to each other they learned each others secrets, what makes them tick, and their deepest darkest desires to the point that no one knows them better. When Rory came home for a 10 day leave he was so excited about meeting his pen pal face to face while Neve was just looking for a moment in time for them – something she could hold on to and remember. Neve has a lot of plans and unfortunately Rory doesn’t factor into those plans. So needless to say the meeting doesn’t go well and Neve things that is it. When Rory comes home 4 months later for good things have changed and turns out Neve needs Rory more than she thinks and the story takes off from there.

This is the first book I have read by Wendy Marcus and I really appreciated her unique style of writing. The book starts in what I thought was an unusual place to the point that I thought that I may have missed something but once I got a few chapters in and saw what she had done I thought it was well done. I appreciated the multiple character POV’s – something I love because it gave me as the reader a chance to really see who both these characters are and experience their own personal pain. Also I appreciated the authors handling of combat PTSD and how both Rory and Neve handled that part of Rory’s return. The author could have shy away from it but instead she chose to meet it head on and I thought it was a great part of the story. If I had any criticism it is the way the reader is dropped into the story – while I appreciated what the author had done it was a little disconcerting in the beginning and it did take me about 2 chapters to figure it out.

All in all this was a good book about the effects of war and how important it is to keep in touch with those brave soldiers and that sometimes something as simple as writing to a complete strange can ultimately change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved! 7 October 2015
By Amy (So Many Reads) - Published on

All I Need Is You by Wendy S. Marcus took me completely by surprise. Often. From the first letters written between hero Rory and heroine Neve to a hilarious scene in a school parking lot to a very serious night that brought all emotions to a head and changed the lives of the main characters. I couldn’t find much of a blurb for this book when I read it, so I didn’t really know what I was getting into, other than I knew it would be a contemporary romance and Marcus is an auto-read for me. It was an emotional journey of finding oneself independently and through the love of other people. That sounded like a women’s fiction type description, huh? Well, let me tell you this book is plenty hot and sexy and definitely is a romance. It’s just Neve’s journey was more than just about her and Rory.

I enjoyed the plot of this book because it did not follow what I expect in a lot of contemporary romance books. It was a little raw at times. Neve’s background is not as light and fluffy as it appears to the outside world. I love both her strength and her vulnerability throughout the story. Rory isn’t the guy I expected to read about. He is a solider, but he isn’t the typical 6 foot plus, 250 lb hero we read about. Boy does he have a personality make to up for his physical size. Rory and Neve fit so well together, too. I just love the little twist to the typical romance couple.

Marcus does a fantastic job with Neve and Rory’s romance. As I mentioned from the beginning I was surprised and was not able to predict how things would turn out. Of course I knew they would end up together, but it’s the how that kept me reading. The intimate scenes fit the two of these characters very well. Marcus writes hot scenes and they are always different depending on the story.

I enjoyed the other storylines with Neve’s family. Her brother Nate was fantastic and I hope he gets a book someday. I loved Rory’s family and how they interacted with one another. I thought Marcus did a fantastic job with the ending and bringing all the plot lines together. All I Need Is You had me laughing out loud in some scenes, scared for Neve and Rory in a couple others and my heart both hurt and swelled from the love that poured out of this story. If you are looking for a page turning contemporary romance that will have your feeling many phases of emotions throughout the story, I highly recommend you give All I Need Is You a try.
