I very much like Christopher Brookmyre's sense of humour. He takes real people and pushes them to their limits but they remain believable.
Do not read if you are a fundamentalist as there is a sideswipe at religion in there, and research shows that fundamentalists are less likely to have a sense of humour.
Otherwise enjoy an exciting attack on the "defence industry".

Love this. Great characters, really believe in them. Perfect descriptions of scenarios (the way the gran thinks/behaves when her grandchild is in danger is fantastic).
Perfect ending too.
Will be buying more of Mr Brookmyre's books for sure.

My 10th Brookmyre and although it has great set pieces and wonderful characters - notably Bett and Jane - it is not quite up there with One Fine Day or The Sacred Art. Still, CB's "not quite as good" is an awful lot better than some writer's top form, so do read it. I had already read the next one of his - a Tale Etched in Hard Black Pencil and thought it well below par, so maybe this one was the start of his decline. I'm prepared to give him more chances.
