A superb take on a familiar trope

Extremely well written with lightness and sweetness, with amazeball sex, emotional highs and deep despair. I went looking for something different to my usual to read while in lockdown and found myself thoroughly entranced. The plot was good and the characterisation was perfect.
I believe this is the author’s debut, and if so, she is off to a brilliant start.

This book was utterly delightful, a fun and flirty rom com with friends to lovers and fake dating.

I really enjoyed Alice and Aaron’s friendship and how that evolved into something more. Both characters had to grow to get their happy ever after. I loved watching bookish Alice grow in confidence and face her fears. Watching commitment shy Aaron struggle against his attraction when Alice innocently (or not) explored her emerging confidence had me grinning from ear to ear. Aaron had reasons for his behaviour, and his kindness to Alice when she was dealing with anxiety was a big tick in my book.

It wasn’t just the main characters I loved. The supporting characters were equally wonderful. I loved the way Alice and Aaron interacted with their families and friends. The subplot about Alice’s father was beautiful and gave me all the feels. And yay for the supportive step mum who was a positive force in Aaron’s life.

This book masterfully ran the gamut from heart warmingly sweet to toe curlingly sexy. There were tender moments, awkward moments, heart racing moments. It was light-hearted and fun but also dealt with topics such as anxiety with insight and compassion.

This book stands alone but I am delighted to know it is also a part of a series. I for one CANNOT WAIT for the next one.

The Alice Equation added up to the perfect read for me.

I came to this book with some misgivings, given the genre. But these thoughts were entirely displaced by a story with an interesting plot, cleverly constructed and well written. The characters are interesting and well developed and the story unfolds at a good pace. While the outcome is probably predictable, there are many twists and turns in finally getting there. Yes, love is indeed sometimes complicated. A good read - bring on more Devina!

The Alice Equation follows Alice. She's bookish, withdrawn and by her own admission, slightly weird. Alice's best friend Aaron is a gorgeous man, incapable of commitment and whom of course she's spent the last 5 years hopelessly in love with.

While this book won't win any prizes for most unique plot line, the beautifully written story, quippy dialogue and three dimensional characters certainly make up for it. The book was well edited, chemistry laden and a genuine pleasure to read.

Everything adds up to Alice!

My Christmas read that I basically didn't put down - it was a really super book that had two great central characters. Alice and Aaron are about to find out that fake dating has all sorts of complications including dealing with nosy friends and family as well as coping with messy emotional situations. I really enjoyed the familiarity of a story set in Australia - it added that little extra to the book. There was a strong sense of who all the people were, no one-dimensional characters for this author, she went out of her way to create vivid pictures for the reader. I loved, loved, loved Polly, Alice's best friend, and wanted to go around for tea with Andrea, Aaron's stepmother. This is a book that makes a great holiday read by the beach or next to a fireplace, as you find yourself choosing a side and hoping that it all ends well ...for everyone.

A lovely little romcom and a bit raunchy as well. It was well written and I really enjoyed the storyline, with loveable and fun characters. I read this in two sittings, and if you are a romantic comedy fan, so will you!
