The leather is buttery soft and they are slightly large, for me size 6 but I have wide feet that swell up in the day so I sure they will be fine. They look great too.
Sizewise I found them to be an expected fit. The 6 was too small the next size up (my usual size) was ok if a little on the big side. But the main problem for me was the instep on the insoles is in the wrong place for my foot - too far forward and too high for me as well. Lovely cushioned orthotic insoles but the arch was too high and misplaced for me. Expensive mistake and has shaken my confidence ordering - usually it states that it is from the US or overseas.
The sizing can be tricky. In my experience, I wear a solid 9 in most shoes, sometimes even a 9.5, but only if a shoe runs a little small. All 4 of my Alegrias (the Paloma, the Classic clog, the Belle, and the Kaitlyn) are sized 39. In the classic clog I have plenty of room, especially once they got worn in (i wear these all the time in the house because of my heel issue). The Paloma fits like a dream. The Kaitlyn has a slightly different insole so it feels smaller, but not too small as my toes aren't touching the end. The Belle almost felt too small at first, but after a day of wearing they broke in and now I don't notice my toes touching the end like they did the first day.
Now for the solution to the squeak that some have complained about. The squeak originates in the sole of the shoe from the insole rubbing against the inside of the shoe itself. If you remove the insole and coat the bottom of it with a silicone lubricant like you can get at a hardware store or auto supply store, it will cease the squeak. All four of my pairs developed the squeak after a few days of wear. After spraying the bottom of the insoles 3 of them no longer squeak at all. The classic clogs still squeak, but I believe the issue with those is different. The squeak seems to originate on the top of the shoe where the leather strap rubs against the decorated cork top (they are the classic cork black pull up design). I don't know how long this fix lasts, but so far it's been a few weeks since I sprayed mine and they are still squeak free.
Original review: I l started having foot pain about a year ago and as I stand for most of my work day started to investigate "nursing" shoes. I discovered two brands of clogs that work for me (I'm a 41 in Sanita and a 9 in a Klog) but wanted some non clogs too. This brand had a lot of options and good reviews. I went to a DSW store just to try on a pair of Alegrias and found the 39 a little too small so knew the "classic size" 40 (DSW had only one style and didn't have anything over a 39) was probably my size - I usually fit a 9 1/2. I waited a while to write this review (I bought these shoes in August 2017) and now have several different styles of Alegria shoes. They are all size 40s so once you find your size I've found the sizing to be consistent. These were comfortable from the moment I put them on but the right shoe has squeaked from the beginning (that's why only 4 stars). I tried putting cornstarch under the insole and it helped a little bit for a while, but the aqueak was still there. I'm going to try the silicon spray trick I read about in another review because that squeak is the only reason I don't wear them very often. (None of my other Alegria shoes squeak!) Bottom line: Nice looking, comfortable Mary Jane shoe that can work with pants/leggings or skirts/dresses. Full rocker bottom which I find most comfortable.
For the price point that these shoes are in, I would expect that the stitching was actually consistent, and fully stitched. That was not the case. The front and the back of the left shoe had missing stitches; the front rubber was actually slightly pulled away from the shoe. I was excited at first when I got these, and I wore them out my first day. THAT is when I noticed the shoes flaws.
I'd also like to say that, unlike what others have stated, these are possibly the most uncomfortable shoes I have worn in a while. This is a bit of a letdown, because I was planning on ordering the sweetie pie suede. Perhaps I got a bad batch, but...no good. I'll stick with Danskos.
They're a lot lighter than they look. I know from the pictures they seem kind of awkward and clunky, but they really aren't. I've also noticed that I can walk much faster while wearing them because of the way the sole rocks forward as you walk, which is a nice bonus, and my legs don't get so tired because they aren't having to work as hard.
One thing I'd like to point out is that these really are not outdoor shoes. They do not handle uneven surfaces very well and I constantly feel like I'm going to trip over my feet. They're great for standing or walking on a hard, flat surface like tile, carpet, etc. but I prefer regular sneakers for the commute to work. It's probably better for the shoes, anyway, I imagine they'll last a lot longer.
Overall I'd definitely recommend them. I haven't encountered any of the problems other people have complained about like squeaking and problems with the velcro, but I've only owned them for a few weeks, so I'll probably update this in the future once I've seen how they hold up over time.
**The size I originally ordered was too big. I discovered this when I went to the store to try on and buy a different color. When ordering on line, I went by a size chart but in reality I needed a smaller size. I returned them without even opening the shipping box AND re-ordered the correct size but was still charged a re-stocking fee. Doubtful that I’ll use this seller again.**
