AKIRA, the crown jewel of anime and science fiction, returns with remastered 4K visuals and remixed audio. Neo-Tokyo, 2019. The city is well on the way to rebuilding after World War III. The central characters, Kaneda and Tetsuo, two high school drop-outs, are members of a joy-riding motorcycle gang. In the opening scene, Kaneda and Tetsuo stumble upon a secret government project to develop telekinetic humans, apparently for use as weapons. Tetsuo learns of the existence of his 'peer' Akira, the project's most powerful subject, and determines to challenge him.

I love this genre but fell asleep watching this. My grown up daughter thought it was very good. You'll have to decide for yourself.

Infectious cyberpunk themes, beautiful late 80s early 90s anime aesthetic, very enjoyable movie, a must for fans of movies set in a cyberpunk, dystopian near future setting.

It lives up to all the hype anime fans have been saying about Akira. So much attention to detail has been put into this anime. The 4K presentation is crystal clear and it is probably the best animated feature I have ever seen. Transformers: The Movie 4K is close to Akira's quality.

A great movie. I had forgotten a lot of stuff cuz I hadn't seen it in ages. It's weird, cool, nutty and disturbing.

Well worth the watch for fans of anime and holds up amazingly well to modern animation standards.
