5.0 out of 5 stars Very good noise cancellation, battery life very good, light weight and well made.
By Arya - Be Autism Aware on 15 August 2021
The Open Move are good. But the Aeropex (normal and Mini version for smaller heads) are much better. See Aeropex and Areopex mini for my reviews on those.

It has very good noise cancellation, I used to constantly get told the wind was hurting the ears of people who i am on the phone to, but even when the wind is blasting now people cant hear it but can hear me fine.

The sound is very clear, much better than my old Sony ear buds.
The battery life is really very good, I am just talking but can get 6 hours from them easy. They also charge super fast.

The sound is great if your in a quite room or even with the TV on, however if your driving the car with the window open and cars are passing you might have trouble hearing some of the words in a phone call, however they do come with a pair of ear plugs, if you put at least one in that helps heaps. I keep them in the car in the door handle for when i am driving.

They also come with a nice pouch for if your out and about to keep them clean and safe.

They are a little difficult to get used to as they place some pressure on your bones, I suffer from headaches so I was worried i wouldn't be able to wear these at all, but wanted to give them a go because i am sick of ear buds that go into your ears. My head has gotten a bit more used to them but i still do get sore form them.

I wear a cap all the time, unless its night time and then I wear a beanie, its fine with both, but if your cap goes over the top of your ears it might be a bit annoying for you as these need to fit snug over the top of your ears. You can wear them over the top of your beanie if your just listening to the news or music. Wearing them with a cap, sunglasses and a mask was a challenge but it still works : )

I am happy i don't have to look on the floor for ear buds that have fallen out of my ears, or getting a cord caught on something and having them ripped out of my ears.

It is great to be able to hear everything around you, it makes me feel a lot safer when i am walking. Even around the house as i can hear my dogs and what they are doing while i am talking on the phone.

They are very well made and look great, the stickers they come with is a great and gives a nice personal touch to them. I put some colour on mine straight away. I LOVE the pink and white they are lovely.

The hoop is a little difficult if your trying to lay down as it pushes the pads off your bones (I have a smaller size head, so might not so this for everyone) and then the person your talking to cant hear you (even though you can still hear them). The Aeropex Mini version (my new pair) are MUCH better and do not cause the above issue.

The Aeropex Mini (and normal size) are also lighter, longer battery, better at keeping nosing to an eqal level (people couching blows your ears out on the Openmove but not on Aeropex) and the charger is magnetic which is easier than the Openmove USB C.

I paid full price for my OpenMove but got the Aeropex on sale (black Friday), they are defiantly worth the extra (nearly double the price) However if you cant manage that then the Openmoves are a fantastic first pair to get you on bone conducting. After experiencing being able to hear everything around you, you wont want to go back to in ear buds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific second pair of headphones for a few specific use cases
By Michael on 15 August 2021
These are a great second pair of headphones for most people, and ideal for outdoor exercise, listening at the office (if you still want to hear your surroundings), general listening around the house or if you have conductive hearing loss. I think the best analogy is they’re like having a small Bluetooth speaker follow you around that only you can hear. While the sound quality isn’t great for music, being able to hear your surroundings gives way to many use cases that regular headphones can’t offer.

Sound Quality -
The clear downside of this product is the sounds quality isn’t that great. Higher frequencies like human speech sound great, so podcasts and tv shows sound fine, but lower frequencies in music are definitely lacking. For comparison they don’t sound nearly as good as the first generation AirPods and couldn’t hold a candle to AirPod Pros or any over ear headphone. I would compare their sound quality to a small Bluetooth speaker, but well above the speaker in your phone. Because of this I don’t think they’d be very good as your only pair of headphones but can be a great second pair for the following use cases;

Outdoor Exercise -
As these headphones leave your ear canals free, you can still clearly hear what’s going on around you and be aware of cars, bikes and other pedestrians. I will say if you have them loud enough I will inhibit some of your hearing, but better than pretty much any other option. I like to run outdoors and honestly for this safety feature alone they were worth the money for me.
At louder volumes too they tend to vibrate quite a bit, which I’ve read other people dislike but I actually enjoy while exercising. Comfort wise these just feel like a pair of glasses and I really don’t tend to notice them when their on.

In the office -
For me personally these are great for the office as I still need to be able hear people when they come up to my desk and speak with me. If you have a particularity noisey office, or actively want to block out people around you talking than an in ear headphone is probably better for you. I’ve found the sound bleed (other people being able to listen to your music) pretty low, and would put them on par with original apple AirPods. If you’re more than a meter away from someone and not listening at max volume you should be fine.

These are also exceptional for zoom or phone calls. People sounds clear but most critically you can hear yourself speak normally without your ear canal blocked. By all reports other people have said I sound clear to them too on calls.

General use around the house -
I’ve found these to be great for listening to around the house while I’ve wanted to also hear what I’m doing. Cooking, pottering around in the shed or just doing chores often feels weird for me with my hearing completely blocked so these offer a great solution. Also they feel a lot less antisocial if you have other people in your household and don’t want to ignore them. I do switch to a better pair of headphones when I really want to appreciate the music I’m listening to though. One slight downside is that the band around the back is pretty large for my head. It doesn’t get in the way for me in most situations but if I’m sitting on the couch with the cushion behind my head they frustratingly get pushed out of place.

For conductive hearing loss -
Given these headphones stimulate the cochlea directly they circumvent the ear drum and the middle ear. I have issues with my left ear drum but my cochlea is fine, so for me I can hear better with these compared to traditional headphones (not perfectly though).

How do these compare to the Aeropex?
For most people I think these are far better value for money than the aftershokz aeropex. The aeropex offer a better waterproofing rating, a slightly sleeker design and two hours more battery life, but for me these things weren’t worth almost double the price tag, especially for a secondary pair of headphones. One thing I’d love the openmove’s to offer is a smaller headband size as the aeropex’s come in two sizes.
Notabley the Openmove’s have the ubiquitous USB-C port for charging, a significant advantage over the proprietary cable that comes with the Aeropex. You should note that Aftershokz don’t recommend using a “fast charger” with these which is a little annoying as pretty much all the USB-C chargers in my house could be considered a fast charger. I’ve been using the 10W fast charger I use for my phone and so far haven’t had any issues, but am steering clear of my 65W laptop charger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Anytime
By Alan on 5 December 2020
Sits on your head in such a way that one just forgets that it is there. Great sound for music, podcasts and audio books, I was very surprise at the sound quality. The strange thing about this headset is that if you block your ears the sound doubles in volume?? Great for phone calls, I have no problems hearing callers or callers hearing me. The only time I cannot use the headset is when there is a very loud noise nearby, you need to block your ears with the provided earplugs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable for my runs
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 September 2020
I bought these headphones so I could still hear traffic and cyclists on my runs. The sound quality is surprisingly good, much better than I'd expected with both music and podcasts clear and more than loud enough, without me going anywhere near as loud as they can go. I can now listen to them and still hear cyclists coming behind me in plenty of time. I'll be using these year round but I'm most looking forward to using them over the winter where I'll be out in the dark more and it'll be even more important to be able to hear what's going on.

On my first run I was aware of my ponytail hitting against the band at the back, as it does sit out away from the head (like you see in the images), but after that first run I haven't noticed it at all, so I guess I've got used to it quickly. Even on the first run where I was aware of it it was still far less annoying than my old headphones where the connecting wire always seemed to be about to pull the earbuds out of my ears!

I've added a photo of the earphones along with my kindle to give an idea of the actual size - they're quite a bit smaller than I expected so don't sit as far off the head as I'd worried they might. :)

Another reviewer mentioned the beeps being very loud, but I haven't noticed this. Maybe a case of getting the right volume mix between the phone volume options and headphones?
