Read on behalf of A Book Lovers Emporium.
I think that m/m are my favourite genre. I love how big strong men can be all mushy and love sick. This story of Caddock and Francis is certainly a great example.
I did feel like I was reading a period drama sometimes. Francis' language is very 'eccentric'. I loved it. The story was very sweet and there was no messing about with miscommunication. I really liked that.
There were a couple of times that I may have had a tear in my eye, but mostly I had a big soppy smile on my face.
I've never read a book by Dahlia before but that will change.
Caddock is retired from being an international star Rugby player. He has taken on the roll of bringing up his nephew, Devlin. Caddock decides to make a life for them in Looe, Cornwall. His friend/realtor hires Francis as his interior decorator. The minute they meet they like each other. Francis is a bit wary of being in a relationship after his last disastrous one. He has a trauma from his past that's holding him back too..
I was willing them together. I love the way the big, brooding, Rugby playing, brute becomes so delicate and totally adorable. The other characters in the book were just great. The banter between friends and Francis' Gran are classic. Very believable characters. Caddock's Dad needed a swift boot to the head though.
Overall a lovely story.

I genuinely liked After the Scrum. It's a sweet tale of two men who find each other when they're both looking for something in their lives. I love how Caddock takes care of Francis, softening him in the process. Francis himself is a riot. I also loved the comedic breaks with his grandmother, Sherlock and Devlin.
These 2 make such a great family in what is a beautifully written tale of love and family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weird reviews for a good story 11 April 2016

I have to say that I liked both Caddock and Francis. I found the story charming, sweet and believable. Devlin and Sherlock were well written secondary characters who made the story even better. I didn't look at a single review until I'd finished the book. I bought it because the blurb sounded good. I honestly can't fathom how a couple of people could say they couldn't finish it. But to each their own. Though the sex scenes weren't the hottest I've read, they were descriptive and plenty hot for this story. I'd encourage you to give this book a try.
4.0 out of 5 stars The title and the cover kept me from reading this for quite a long time 19 April 2017

I saw this book when it first came out but I didn't know what a 'scrum' was and the cover didn't really catch my eye so I just never picked it up. Recently I was reading The Wanderer (The Sin Bin Book 1) and got the impression that I was supposed to have more knowledge of some of the minor characters. So I looked up the author and found After the Scrum.

I really enjoyed this book; I liked the fun, sassy relationship between Francis and Caddock. The conversations were 100% entertaining and appealing; the sex scenes were nice but not super steamy. I liked the gossipy little town and Francis's gran. I see that some people do not like all the British-isms. Wow. Then don't read a book by a British author. I enjoy that aspect because it's different than what I normally hear and it just sounds so charming.

This is an author I would certainly read more of.

I don't remember why I initially picked this book up, but I wasn't expecting much from it. It sounded like a basic romance with a sports theme - not my favorite genre. I was very surprised to find that I loved this book and think I need to find more by this author. Both the MCs were clever and interesting. Caddock's nephew seemed like a true 4 year old and was adorable. I would expect Caddock, a former rugby player to overwhelm Francis, an interior designer who suffered from panic attacks after being attached in London before the story began, but he was a strong, fully developed character. Overall, I was very impressed and I'm happy to see that, while a stand-a-lone book, there are two other books somewhat connected to this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars As Sweet As They Come 1 August 2016

Oh, my, what a wonderful, sweet ride with two completely unique characters who have completely unique supporting actors.

Caddock and Francis are instantly stuck on each other, and what is surprising is that the ex-rugby superstar is the one who is so completely besotted that he is the dominant force all around. Francis, while a wonderful character, is somewhat subjugated to Caddock's overwhelming insta-love, and it works, works, works!

That Caddock has an exceptionally adorable four-year-old nephew in Devlin, left to him by his deceased widowed brother, and Francis has his exceptional care dog Sherlock and his wonderful Gran to keep him on keel, is helpful and comforting.

Not that there aren't some heinous things along the way, but this one left me feeling comfortable in the protective hands of Caddock and the people of Looe, who are the weirdest bunch of busy bodies and loving souls you are likely to find in Cornwall.

So sweet my teeth ached, but in a way that biscuits and custard tarts could cure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of "After the Scrum" 24 April 2016

This was a genuinely wonderful story of Caddock, a forced to retire rugby player and Francis, a interior decorator. Both men have deep issues to resolve with Caddock, loosing his brother and having to take over the care of his young nephew and Francis recovering from a brutal assault when in college. There is so much humor in this story that keeps the sadder parts from being too heavy. Love, hot sex, angst, danger, grief, anger, family strife and humor are all ingredients to make this a must read on your list of well...must reads. Enjoy this book with a snack and be prepared to laugh and grieve and get nervous as the author leads you down the path of love.
