Claudette Hegel is the author of more than 300 publications, including eight traditionally-published books and many Kindle e-books, as well as articles and stories. Most of her publications are nonfiction on a variety of topics. Her first three traditionally-published books are about the Newbery and Caldecott Award books and her fifth and sixth books are biographies of Randolph Caldecott and John Newbery. Her other paper-and-ink books include a book for educators to use with students and two write-for-hire books, one on tigers and the other on African-American musicians.

In addition to her own writing, Claudette helps others improve their manuscripts. She has also served as managing editor of _Stories for Children_ magazine, editor of two nonprofit organizations' newsletters, and author of the "Claudette on Caldecotts and Newberys" column for _Once Upon a Time_ magazine.

Claudette is also an avid volunteer. She has spent countless hours volunteering in school and public libraries, organizations for homeless animals, and twice served as the Minnesota Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) regional advisor. Claudette currently spends much of her volunteer time helping put books in the hands of at-risk school children through Books on Wings (www.booksonwings.org).

Originally a farm kid from McClusky, North Dakota, Claudette now lives in Bloomington, Minnesota, with her cat, Mewsic, and all of the more than 700 Newbery and Caldecott Award books, including the honor books.
