This book picks up mid way through the first in the series (Incandescent), but follows a different couple. Holly and Sy have been interesting from the beginning and you keep reading to find out whether they survive or fail. I struggled to put it down the minute I started reading and you will be the same. There are so many ups and downs of this turbulent relationship but you always find yourself willing them to survive. If you loved the first one, this one will continue the relationship.
3.5 Stars! I have mixed feelings for Affliction, I really loved Incandescent and the glimpses we had of Sy and Holly in that had me excited to read their book. While I loved the majority of the book there were parts that left me disappointed. (spoilers) I'm not a fan of keeping anything to do with pregnancy from partners at all, this big secret wasn't revealed until 65-70% into the book, wayyy to long and drawn out. It gave the ending of the book a rushed feel. Holly disappointed me and she didn't seem like the fabulous Holly from the first book. Now I understand the trauma she experienced and I cant imagine dealing with something like that but I really wanted her to share with Sy after he proved he wanted thing to progress with her, he showed her how caring, in his Sy way, he was and how much he wanted her to find the light again. I know we got to see them bond after the reveal but it just took too long. Sy was justifiably upset with the length of time it took Holly to spill. I felt she could have been more understanding, especially knowing what happened to him in the past. While I wasn't a huge fan of their beginning and Sy's behaviour, he certainly did grow on me the more we got to know him. What also baffled me was Sy couldn't picture having children again yet on numerous occasion he went without protection during the sex.... Say what!!! Even when Holly said it wasn't a safe time, they still didn't use anything! Bit hard to get my head around that I'm sorry. When they finally got to a place where they were moving forward, I really got back into the book! It felt like the story made some progression again. I am glad they got their HEA once all the drama was settled. I loved the last third of this book the most and I know it probably seems like I didn't like it and its all negative but I honestly did.
I did not think it could get better than Incandescence but then Sy jumps into the picture and Oh MY!!!! seriously hot and angry.
The tension is ever building in this installment and it keeps getting hotter throughout the story.
I really liked seeing the story unfold from a different point of view from the first book really answered some questions I wanted to know about.
I really loved the difference in the characters as they developed in the story from the beginning to the tragedies that made them become stronger and fight for more.
Sy is one of those rare characters that when you find him your reading life has changed he is the one that makes or breaks this story. Sys back story is one of pure tragedy and you cant help but love him before during and after.
Holly is perfect, broken, funny and strong. Her story is sad and how she overcomes her grief and obstacles is entirely amazing.
As a couple they are brilliant they really work well and their story is one that needs to be told. They fall for each other easily and you can clearly see why. This one is a soul match one that will be hard to top, although I believe River Savage has the talent to bring about a few more of these amazing couples and give us their stories.
I LOVED this book and I cannot wait to read whatever River Savage comes out with next its bound to be INCREDIBLE.
I will most definitely be continuing on with this series. Bring on Jess' story its going to be the funniest of the bunch I think, and I reckon the sexiest.
I loved Incandescent, and was intrigued by Holly and Sy. I wanted to read their story. Sometimes the follow up isn't what I expect, and I am disappointed about the story. This wasn't the case with this! It was worth the wait.
There was so much heartache these two characters survived. I couldn't believe how the story progressed. With all the angst however, there were beautiful sweet moments. I think what these two shared, helped them understand one another better.
I won't rehash the plot and I won't spoil it for anyone. But this was a gem. This series is a keeper on my iPad. I've read Incandescent countless times, and this book will join that pile. I just loved it! River, my hat is tipped towards you. Brilliant job creating this world and these characters. I just love how your mind works!
18+ This is another great read in the series of the Knights Rebels MC. Same again sex but with a good story Holly and Sy feature in this one you also learn about the other club members in the book but there's always one couple that is concentrated on really great.
Oh dear god this was such an amazing book Sy is just well straight out swoon worthy he has a past that he needs to let go of and he needs to work through his present with Holly as thy both struggle through this amazing story we watch them both grow and come full circle such an amazing read
This is not your typical MC romance it's not full of rainbows, hearts, and fluff. It is emotionally draining and absolutely heartwarming and I absolutely LOVED it! Its dirty, raw, and extraordinary perfect that I devoured it from the first page to the last. From that prologue on you're taken on a journey of epic proportions. Let's talk about the prologue, never has something effected me so much as "Three Words", which can change your life in a instant. Sy was a man who had a devastating loss which turned him into the brooding, alpha hunk of deliciousness that he is or we can use a line from the book about Sy which was
"That man is sex on fire. You damn blind or what?"
While Holly was the sassy and fierce friend of Kadence who we met in book one you realize that darkness can take you and hold you captive until you find your relief from the darkness. From their first meeting we knew that there was chemistry and in Affliction it is explosive and the kind of all consuming melt your f***ing eyeballs HOT that we all wish to have someday. The trials this couple goes through leaves you so emotionally drained that you feel as if you are right there with them. Sy sums it up best when he tells Holly
"Sweetheart, everything good in life involves some level of risk. You have to be prepared to take a risk to achieve an amazing end."
If those lines don't make you grab a copy then there's so many more in this incredible story that you won't stop until the end and even after their still in your head. If your looking for a read that grips you and keeps you hostage this is your story. I have to tell you, if you pass up this book, you will be missing out on something special. These characters are strong enough to get through anything. They are headstrong but they will take hold of your heart, and never let go. I cannot wait to dive back in to this world and catch up with the Knights Rebel's once more.
