I was really looking forward to this book and Williams story. Unfortunately I was to be greatly disappointed. I usually like Heather Boyd’s books, unfortunately this was one of the most ridiculous I’ve ever read. I had to give it up before I’d got anywhere near half way through.
A man who seduces his employee for his own sexual gratification would be a villain to me and to most others, he’s certainly not ‘hero’ material and then to try to convince anyone of normal intelligence that a dukes son would marry a maid just blew it out of the water for me.
Absolutely ridiculous story.
I normally enjoy Ms Boyd’s books but not this one sorry.

Ridiculous, unconvincing bookReviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 October 2018
Okay story, needs more romance.Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 December 2018
A good story, but too much story and not enough romance for me. What there was, was really well written but needed more hot romance for me. Was left feeling that there should have more in depth feelings between the H and h. May just be this book of the series, will definitely read more from this author.
Scarred hero and some spankingReviewed in the United States on 24 August 2016
I love a scarred war hero story, so when I read the blurb on this one I had to read it. I found it a satisfying take on the theme. William was a perfect war hero who, after almost dying, clings to a life of strictness and order. His maid Matilda, who saved his life, becomes his obsession. While I didn't particularly like Matilda all that much she did grow on me as the story progressed. I did, however, enjoy the relationship between William and Matilda. I was anticipating their attraction for each other growing and was eager to see where it would take them. The slight BDSM scenes between them were steamy and erotic. They were in keeping with William's character of rigidity and discipline. I found the story overall entertaining and engrossing.

Troubling storyReviewed in the United States on 24 January 2017
I just could not finish this book, and I usually really like Heather Boyd's books. I was put off at the outset by the hero's apparent obsession with hurtful sex tools, but that lessens as the story progresses. The heroine is admirable; an impoverished gentlewoman who is forced into service to survive.

Different.Reviewed in the United States on 1 August 2016
Explicit sexual content, including spankings. It is a different type of story, a young lady working as a maid, but probably came from a middle class as she was fairly educated and a Naval Captain wounded in battle. I thought the characters a little stiff, but interesting. It is their love story. The spankings had me rolling my eyes and sometimes laughing.
