Putting left and right hands together to play similar motion scales has never been easier with this pictorial system of learning scales invented by Ellie Hallett and rigorously field-tested by students especially chosen because they 'hated scales'. These students were able to play the correct fingers on the right notes at their first playing intuitively and without errors, amazing themselves and their teachers.
This colour pictorial system for learning and teaching scales in Accurate First Time Piano Scales was designed, trialled and massaged into shape by Ellie Hallett over several years, prompted by observing how students of all standards and ages so often struggled to learn their scales using traditional notation scale books.
Trying to remember what notes are sharps or flats are needed from the key signature, and which fingers go on which notes while reading the notation often cause students to avoid exams altogether because experience shows that too many marks are lost due to poor knowledge of scales.
Students are more motivated to practise with these books, errors are not practised in so teacher-time in lessons is more efficiently used not having to correct fingering and note errors.

Practicing scales using this method helps develop finger-muscle strength, flexibility and independence of fingers, thumb-under and third-finger-over dexterity, speed with evenness and subtlety of tone, rhythmic control and key signature knowledge. The ability to visually see and mentally hear what is ahead of the fingers, helps achieve musical confidence.
Having a strong key sense comes from playing scales frequently and well. It enables the ear to hear a wrong note in pieces more readily, know where it is and how to fix it. This also pleases teachers.
