This is my first book by Melanie James and oh boy it's great. This quirky story of Leigh and her new found magic had me from the beginning. You can tell that Melanie James uses current incidents (or maybe it was coincidence). The scene of Leigh's sister seemed to come straight from the show, Sex sent me to the ER. The pig incident happened a few weeks ago in my home state and of course the cruise ship. I was laughing out loud during the putt putt golf scene too. This is a quick fun read, leaving you wanting more and anxiously awaiting the next installment in Leigh's life. You definitely will enjoy this

I really love the premise of this series, and it's a novella that's left me wanting more. Great characters, great representation of female friendships, and I loved the cat character.

5.0 out of 5 stars Side-stitching fun! 16 June 2014
By Kindle Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I read this book, and I kid you not, in less than 3 hours! Nearly that entire time I was laughing so hard I had tears STREAMING down my face!

All I can say is; poor Hunter, you didn’t know WHAT you were getting into but was a great sport about it all! Leigh had no CLUE what she was doing but towards the end finally figured it out! And Luna?! Oh goodness she reminds me SOOO much of my own cat although instead of being standoffish to the owner she’s usually that way towards strangers, at least at first. I loved all of the friends, and even the poor parents; never mind what they all went through!

The only downside to the book is that it ended too soon!! I’m suffering from the ‘blahs’ because I keep going and expecting there to be more to it and there isn’t! However there’s two bonus snippets at the end, and that’s all I’m going to say, that kind of make up for it! I’m definitely going to wait excitedly for the next book, and snatch it up as soon as possible! I’m sooo glad I was introduced to Melanie James and am adding her to my list of “must haves” for the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating. 15 June 2014

This is one of the most charming and delightful stories I have ever read! It is the fast paced first installment to what I believe will be an exciting series. Its a tough in cheek and laugh out loud adventure of an average school teacher who unwittingly and accidentally becomes a witch....and it seems like her cat Luna knows more about it than Leigh!
Every time she tries to do good with her new found gift, something goes terribly arye.....the most unpredictable things are happening to friends and family.
I can't remember the last time I laughed my way through a book! I am looking forward to the next installment to find out about,.....wait for it.....The Witches Union, local 1313 ...Yep, that's right! Leigh has been summoned to appear on charges of practicing without training and owed dues!!!!!! LOL.
Totally Captivating! I have to call this a must read. Melanie James, just Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Leigh Epstein...you're my new HERO! 16 June 2014

My description of this book? A TOTALLY (to steal the words of a friend) AB-SO-FREAKIN-LUTELY amazing read!
Are you looking for a FUN book that will make you smile and laugh? I mean laugh until you literally cry??
Well, let me JUST tell you, this is the book for you.
Let me preface by saying, I'm am Melanie James fan hands down! Whatever she writes, I'll read. The woman can write ANYTHING and this book proves it! Different by far from A Valentine's Surprise and Conjuring Darkness (both of which I adored BTW), this book had me in tears...Oh did I already say that? (laughing tears...a different spin...right?)
I saw a lot of myself in this book ..*winky winky* and boy does Leigh Epstein weave her spell on her friends! Leigh has all the best intentions of bringing good luck to her deserving friends by conjuring a spell of witchcraft on them, she just doesn't realize that things CAN backfire! How does a reclaimed desk and a cat named Luna play into the equation? You'll have to read to find out...I ain't giving any spoilers. I will tell you that a ripped roofer named Hunter is one of the characters Leigh has 'dealings' with and I cannot wait to read more about this hottie.
Settle into this fun read with your earbuds in listening to Frank Sinatra singing 'Witchcraft' and savor this page turner. Melanie James, yet again you've stolen my heart with a great read and I am 100% a fan!
What's next for Leigh? Can't freakin wait! #bringit
Word up....Local 1313 beware, Leigh Epstein is headed your way and GOD help you all:)

4.0 out of 5 stars Accidental Leigh is Wickedly Charming! 4 August 2014
By Granny Gems - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
First off, I rarely get a book that only has 100 pages and is a series, but the reviews (and it was free!) tipped the balance on this one for me. This is a charming and delightful story! It's about an average school teacher who unwittingly and accidentally fulfills her fantasy of becoming a witch. Not going to repeat the whole story outline since it has been reviewed already, but each time she tries to do good with her new found gift, something goes terribly awry and the result is that completely unpredictable things happen to thwart her good intentions.
I chuckled my way through this book while riding public transportation and almost missed my stop! It did have a "soft ending" and intriguing lead into the next book with the Witches Union, (Local 1313, no less!) where Leigh receives a summons to appear on charges of practicing Witchcraft without proper training/authorization and being fined for back dues!! it is a bit confusing because there is no blank page or indication that when you swipe the next page it is a completely different story. But that was the only annoyance, and considering how much I usually dislike cliffhanging endings, to give the book 4 stars is highly unusual for me.

Bottom line: I would give this a PG-13 rating. I found it delightfully wicked with lots of laugh-out-loud moments and recommend it for light reading. Thanks for making it available for free, and I will watch for more of these from the author, Melanie James.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not how I expected. 13 April 2015
By NancyV - Published on Amazon.com

I feel uncomfortable and slightly disgusted while reading this. First off, I just want to say that I COMPLETELY agree with the beginning intro about erotica. Books that contains explicit scenes and naughty words are often written off as something negative. And that little bit of prologue did justice in defending steamy novels.
However, when I was reading, I don't feel interested or connected with the characters and the storyline. I feel like I'm reading a journal written by a 38 years old mother who had multiple kids, hadn't had sex in forever, and is dissatisfied by her friendships. It's like watching (or in this case, reading) a tacky, boring introduction to a Milf porn, only make it 10x worse. I felt slightly grossed out.
To defend myself, I would have to say that I DO read series and novels from all types. Whether it's young adult, erotica, harlequin, fiction or nonfiction, series or stand-alones, written by males or females, ages from 20 to 50. I've read them all and while I don't enjoy all of them, this series is certainly part of my "bad books" shelf.
-sigh- I don't think I'll be continuing this series. I'm glad I got it for free.
