Product description

Product Description

Live-in child care has many benefits but how do you actually manage having an extra person in your house looking after your children? After 15 au pairs helping with her 5 five boys, this is one mother's extensive guide to successfully hosting au pairs. From online sourcing, settling in and setting boundaries, sticky issues like trust, time alone and discipline are tackled alongside some practical advice on how to keep everyone happy and what to do if they are not. This easy read guide book will give you the confidence and know-how to successfully manage the relationship between you, your family and a live-in au pair or nanny.

From the Author: As a busy mother of five boys you can imagine I was not top of the list when great au pairs are looking for a host family. Yet, I have had several successful long-term live-in au pairs from various countries. During this time, I have not only saved on daycare and live-out babysitters but hosting au pairs put years back on my life and hours back into my week.

This comprehensive manual is written from the perspective of a mother but also as a psychologist who works with people struggling in relationships. I applied my skills and knowledge as a professional and a mother to my au pair hosting experiences with great success. Defining relationship boundaries is the secret to making things work long term but it does not come easily to everyone. I tackle tricky issues in this book around seldom talked about psychological dynamics that can arise and inhibit the ease of hosting an au pair.

Note to reader: I have written this guide from my experience as a mother hosting female au pairs in Australia. I speak to other mothers, and I write from the perspective of a married mother; however, I appreciate the increasing number of single parents seeking an au pair’s assistance. So, I have added an extra chapter for single parents. This book applies equally to live-in Nannies, housekeepers and elder-care.
