ARCTIC Alpine 64 Plus - 90 Watts Low Noise CPU Cooler for AMD AM4 Sockets with Patented Fan Holder - Patented Anti-Vibration System
- EXCELLENT COOLING PERFORMANCE: The 92 mm PWM fan, aluminum heatsink in combination with pre-applied MX-4 high performance thermal compound provide excellent cooling perfor-mance and improve heat transfer from the CPU
- ULTRA QUIET: Test results from VR-Zone have shown that the cooler is nearly inaudible comparing with the boxed cooler. Thanks to the PWM control, the fan speed adjusts according to the CPU temperature and thus the noise level remains at an absolute minimum which qualifies it as a silent cooler
- COMPATIBILITY: AMD AM4, AM3(+), AM2(+), FM2(+), FM1
- IMPROVED INSTALLATION: The mounting of the Alpine 64 PLUS is absolutely transport proof, the MX-4 thermal compound already pre-applied onto the heatsink. New in Rev. 1.1: The installation is significantly easier and even quicker - Put it on (clips hook in automatically), fasten the screws - ready
- MAX. COOLING CAPACITY: 100 Watts

ARCTIC Alpine 64 Plus
Excellent Cooling Performance
The 92 mm PWM fan, aluminum heatsink in combination with pre-applied MX-4 high performance thermal compound provide excellent cooling performance and improve heat transfer from the CPU. As shown in the test by Mod Your Case, the cooler excels the boxed cooler in reducing the temperature significantly by up to 26 degrees.
Test results from VR-Zone have shown that the cooler is nearly inaudible comparing with the boxed cooler. Thanks to the PWM control, the fan speed adjusts according to the CPU temperature and thus the noise level remains at an absolute minimum which qualifies it as a silent cooler.
The Alpine 64 PLUS features wide compatibility with AMD sockets. Its simple mounting system is designed to work with most of today's CPUs. Alpine 64 PLUS is compatible with AMD Sockets FM2+, AM2, FM1, AM3+, AM3, AM2+, AM2 and 939.
Improved Installation - quick, easy, reliable
The mounting of the Alpine 64 PLUS is absolutely transport proof, the MX-4 thermal compound already pre-applied onto the heatsink. New in Rev. 1.1: The installation is significantly easier and even quicker - Put it on (clips hook in automatically), fasten the screws - ready.

My build is a tiny HTPC and I wanted it as quiet as possible. This massive and passive heatsink easily fit over the cpu on my MSI AM1i motherboard. The orientation of the case fan in the DIYPC HTPC CUBE BK allowed me to arrange the fins so that air would blow across the heatsink into the power supply, directly inline and be exhausted. A very quiet combination. The cpu temperature according to the hardware monitor in the BIOS indicated it running at 25c. Mounting the heatsink was a cinch because screw holes were located on each corner of the device.
This is also a Linux Mint 17.2 build.
I'm very happy with this purchase and the solution it provided.
I built my PC, but I left the rather noisy stock cooler on that came with my FM2+ socket APU and never thought anymore about it. I'd never had a computer get fried due to overheating, and so far in my life all the stock coolers were adequate.
This time, however, it appeared that an upgrade would be in order. After some research and review reading, I ordered the ARCTIC Alpine 64 GT Rev 2 CPU Cooler and Antec Thermal Grease Compound.
Shipment came in two days via Prime, packaged well, no damage. I carefully removed the old paste from the APU as well as the factory paste on the ARCTIC with rubbing alcohol and applied the aftermarket paste to the heatsink of the ARCTIC cooler and mounted it to the 7850K. It snapped right into place with minimal fuss, very easy, no screw tightening or motherboard removal required in my mini-ATX case.
Temps immediately dropped to 32 C and held under heavy load at 40-42 C. I could always hear the old fan and and when it spun up you could hear it from across the room. Now I have to keep checking the case to see if it's on, as it is very quiet.
Not bad for a total of 12 bucks. I will be getting another one for our home server.
UPDATE 6-25-15: Well our AC went out yesterday and it got up to 90 F inside. The CPU never cracked 50 C...so far so good!
Since installing this new heatsink/fan, my APU has run consistently cooler even while under heavy load. I have fan speed control software that barely even has the fan on until the APU reaches 40c. While I'm gaming, the fan will finally notch up to 100% speed, but even then, my APU rarely spikes over 50c (whereas my stock heatsink/fan could only maintain around 60c-65c). On top of that, the fan itself is virtually silent. I can hardly hear it at all until it's on full speed, and even then, it's quieter than my stock APU's fan was-- even before the old bat developed a whine.
So far, around 3 weeks in, I'm completely satisfied. I've always had good experiences with Arctic brand products, so my expectations are high here. If something goes wrong in the future, I'll be sure to update my review.
The Good: This is a very nicely small cooler and if you have a CPU/APU that has very low demands it will fit in a the low overhead small form factor cases. It fit very well inside of both the Goodvisory A01 and the Morex 557 which was only 2.44 inches high.
While the form factor met my needs very well, I was unable to continue using this cooler as the cooling was insufficient for the airflow available in the Goodvisory A01 case with a Ryzen 5 3400g. After turning it on and under idle loads the temperature spiked immediately to the 60 degrees Celcius range and continued to climb. 30 minutes of light gaming was enough to cause the APU to lock up and the machine to power down. I ultimately had to select both a different case and a different cooler to meet my cooling needs. Avoid this cooler unless your cooling needs are very low as its efficiency is lacking.
