The viewing angle are honestly not great, If you plan on getting 2 of these for a dual monitor setup you might experience some pretty bad viewing angle.
The only thing it lacked compared to my old monitor was a low minimum brightness for nighttime use. Even at 0 it's still pretty bright.
If you want a comprehensive review of the monitor, check out "Hardware Unboxed" on youtube. Their video helped me make my decision and I have been very happy with it.
and vibrant colors when properly adjusted and doesn't suffer from bad viewing angles. No issues using Freesync with a 1060. Would recommend 4/5
This is my first time purchasing an AOC product. If the quality of this monitor reflects the quality of AOC products, then I am looking forward to purchasing more AOC products.
Obviously, my time with this monitor is short, I just received it a few days ago. But the stand is great compared to many monitors that cost 2x this much. It's very versatile and very sturdy. I'm a leg shaker and this monitor's stand does a good job of countering the wobble.
I have been using an MSI VA panel as my main monitor so I've become used to dark blacks and this monitor, imo, has just as good of blacks as my VA. I'm very pleased with how good the contrast is. I have 0 dead pixels, 0 backlight bleed, and I cannot see any of that IPS glow. I'm actually pretty amazed. I REALLY hope nothing goes wrong with this monitor. Again, I've never used AOC products before. I don't know what their longevity and reliability is.
If you're sticking with 1080p and want 144hz IPS @ 24".. I would say buy this. There is a 27" version, and I wouldn't get a 1080p at 27" but that's only because my desk is not very deep. If I were to be sitting further away from the monitor, 27" wouldn't be so bad and I might have considered it. Especially since I could watch stuff from my bed easier with the larger screen.
Personally I've always thought poorly of acer and asus when it comes to monitors.. I always read and see how poor their QC is. The main reason I've never purchased their monitors in the recent years. I've never had any monitors (that I've owned) actually break on me. I've owned Dell, LG, and MSI. My parents had an acer and it was just trash. It broke within a year. They also had a samsung. It also broke within a year. Granted.. they were cheaper end models and they have no idea what they're buying when they're at "best buy."
For 165$ I would recommend this panel to everyone I know. Amazing value for the specs.
NOTE: I did have to manually change it to 144hz in my gpu's control panel. Out of the box it was 60hz. I have overdrive set to strong.
AOC 24G2 24" 1080p 144hz great initial impression
My only complaints so far are:
- Cannot tilt the display down below vertical; you can only tilt it to an upward angle. Fortunately the height adjustment can be set very low to make up for this.
- Even though the pixel pitch is finer than my old TN display, the black space between pixels is actually larger, so I was getting a bit of localized screen-door effect on moving objects in games (especially on braziers and foliage in Skyrim). I resolved the issue by moving the display a little further back on my desk to increase the viewing distance. I have better than 20/20 vision and tend to be sensitive to visual artifacts (ghosting, tearing, screen door, DLP rainbow, you name it), so take my observations with a grain of salt.
I wanted 1440p, but considering the cost I said "screw it", let's go here. I won the lottery as well: no dead pixels, back-light bleed is gone after lowering brightness to 90 with contrast at 42.
freesync: on (I have a 5600xt) using display port I reach the 144hz. I've also tested to get 3.23 ms on response times.
I bought when they updated saying that it would be in stock. Then after 30 minutes the whole shipment was bought out before they arrived. You have to be quick with these... If you can get it, do it.
The only thing I am upset about is that this one doesn’t come with the USB hub on it. The U variant that is sold in the European regions does have the usb hub on it. In the pictures for the monitor in the US amazon store the do have the version with the usb hub on it.
So if you were expecting this version to have it like me it will not have it.
If you're in the market for the best budget gaming 1080p 144hz IPS 1ms monitor, this is it.
1080p (also a con), 144Hz, 1ms, IPS,
Excellent colors, brightness, contrast, and viewing angles
G-Sync Compatible works flawlessly from my testing.
Excellent Overdrive so pixel responsiveness is great and no ghosting or motion blur was detected
Decent OSD, easy to understand, but buttons are annoying small, and somewhat hard to see, feel, and press. This is also in the cons list.
Includes a Display Port and HDMI cable! Very nice!
Installation is a breeze with included stand, and quick mount and quick release stand.
Excellent no bezels design. This monitor looks very sexy.
1080p -- Coming from a 4K user seeing 1080p again is definitely noticeably lower PPI, but it's not bad. If you're not used to 4K then you will definitely not notice this and will find the monitor to look beautiful.
The red trim on the bottom annoys me, why can't they just make an all black, sleek looking sleeper. Please take notes from View Sonic's latest Elite series AOC. Get rid of the gamery red crap. It's 2020, do better.
More red trim on the stand, and why does the stand have those ridiculous spider legs. Just make a normal looking stand, remove the gamer boy look. Sometimes less is more. The stand also impedes desk space and that is more important to many.
The old school push buttons along the bottom. Seriously how expensive is a simply joystick with a few buttons along the back right of the monitor?
Color temp normal (calms down the reds, they can be a bit hot)
Game mode off
Shadow control 4.0 (really brings out the blacks in dark environments for immersive playing)
game color 1.3/1.4 (depending on the game, I like things saturated but not distorted)
overdrive medium (for 60 fps strong for over that)
If your using the full color spectrum I recommend the settings below: (must have had an update that reset my graphics card settings but the above will work well for console)
Shadow control 5.0
Unfortunately, mine came with two dead pixels right out of the box that I immediately spotted without even having to go out of my way to find them. Amazon had no replacements in stock so I can't say if the next one would of been perfect or not. Still, if you can get a good unit, this is probably the best monitor at this price point for someone looking for good colors, viewing angles, and a high refresh rate.
Otherwise, I really love this monitor. Silky smooth 144hz and nice colors. I think for the price you kind of can't beat it.
