Product Description

The second book in the exciting AMP series! The Milgari threat looms on the horizon. War appears to be imminent. Natural leaders attract a following. Will our hero have the right followers to conduct a private war? He doesn't care, he's charging ahead anyway!

Also available from this author:

A six-book series that takes Man from his first encounter with aliens all the way to a fight for our all-out survival. Do we have what it takes to rule the galaxy?

AMP Series

Cast a thousand years into the future beyond SODIUM. This eight-book series chronicles the struggles of Don Grange, a simple package deliveryman, who is thrust into an unimaginable role in the fight against our enemies. Can we win peace and freedom after a thousand years of war?

OMEGA Series

Cast a thousand years into the future beyond AMP. The Alliance is crumbling. When corruption and politics threaten to throw the allied galaxies into chaos, Knog Beutcher gets caught in the middle. Follow along as our hero is thrust into roles that he never expected or sought. Espionage, intrigue, political assassinations, rebellions and full-on revolutions, they are all coming to Knog Beutcher's world!

HADRON is a modern day story unrelated to the SODIUM-AMP-OMEGA trilogy series. After scientists using the Large Hadron Collider discover dark matter, the world is plunged into chaos. Massive waves of electromagnetic interference take out all grid power and forms of communication the world over. Cities go dark, food and water supplies are quickly used up, and marauders rule the highways. One group of citizens takes a stand. Can they make a difference? And the devastating EM waves, where are they coming from? After months of starvation, a benevolent species arrive in their spaceships to rescue the Human race. Only, are they really so benevolent?

ARMS Series

ARMS is set in the future after Earth was nearing an apocalyptic event. Two competing colony ships were built, taking five million inhabitants each through a wormhole to a pair of newly discovered planets. The planets were settled and not long after the colonies looked to the surrounding star systems for ownership and expansion, which led to a centuries long war between them. A truce was declared after the aggressor side began to lose ground.

Tawnish Freely and Harris Gruberg are genetically engineered Biomarines. Their lives have been dedicated to fighting the war. They find themselves struggling to find work among a population that fears them. Work is found only by delving into the delivery of illegal arms to the outer colonies. Things go awry when they discover their illicit dealings may just be the catalyst that brings back the Great War. They are determined to prevent that from happening.

Private War picks right up where Messenger left off. Arseneault thankfully doesn't waste time re-hashing the entire last book. He understands that we read the first book and don't need to slog through 3 chapters of recap.

The book continues its torrid pace, moving the plot in a way that keep you from ever feeling like the book is dragging, and the best part is that I never once read a paragraph and thought "I've already read this." There is no repetition, no filler, and it's really fun to read a book like this for a change.

Small points for the author to consider:

1) Time management: There are a few times when you let large chunks of time pass like this "the next six months were largely uneventful," or "four months later..." Do NOT get flippant with large chunks of time. You can do this for a day, maybe even a week, but any longer and the reader goes "uh, what?" The problem is that so much can happen in a day in your books, so how can 6 uneventful months go by?

2) There were a lot more grammatical errors in this book. Not that I care much about that type of thing (See the 5 star rating), but it does feel like this book was a little more rushed than the first one, proofread a little less. I have a mind that can fill in the word I knew you meant to type and ignore what's actually on the page, but to many readers this is a big issue. Be mindful of that. (If you want a cheap, yet awesome editor, hire me, I'll happily read your book and compile a list of grammatical and typographical errors as I go, would take me about 2 days to render your novel error-free)

Keep up the good work!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable space-opera 1 July 2014

This is the second in the AMP series and, like the first, an enjoyable tale. Reminds me a bit of the tv westerns of the 50's: every time the hero gets in deep trouble the "cavalry" just happens by to rescue him. But he's an endearing character and fighting the good fight against corrupt politicians and evil forces in the universe, so we forgive the occasional artifices in the plot and just enjoy the story. I'm looking forward to AMP 3!
5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Continuation of a Great Series 21 July 2017

The second book in the AMP series was just as highly entertaining as the first. I'm currently on the third AMP book, and I'm loving the series. As a Professional Engineer with a heavy manufacturing, R&D, and nuclear and electrical power background, I can sometimes be overly critical, but I've found AMP to be very entertaining and the science and technology plausible. The story in AMP has me fully immersed and thoroughly enjoying the read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Private War -- fun entertainment. 1 August 2014

As I said in my review of the Amp 1 book, I find Arsenault's writing refreshing. That's because he isn't pushing or portraying immoral lifestyles like so many sci-fi books do these days. This is a good, old-fashioned adventure where the good guy wins! I like that. I expect Arsenault will eventually get better at putting sentences together in more interesting ways and using less-flat vocabulary as he writes. That comes with experience. I read his first book in the Sodium 1 series (a prequel to this one) and his writing skills are much better than when he wrote that one. Still, I don't read his books because of his writing skills -- I'm looking for good, clean entertainment. I got what I wanted. Thanks, Stephen!
