Didn't expect the story to go where it did. Short, but long enough to have a surprise in it and developed characters. As always the author's love of this genre came through, along with a strong female and more than a touch of humor.
This writer knows how to tell a story. I’ve never read her work before but was able to jump into the book quickly. It’s short, and leads you wanting to buy the next one.
Master Engineer Caelen Williams is called to help the leadership fix an embarrassing problem that could not only threaten the fragile balance of power of Endurance and end life as they know it.
Enlisting the help of her former love, Devar, she discovers a secret that changes everything.
This SFR was very short and sweet. I didn't read the blurb first so the setting surprised me. The worldbuilding was complex and very well done. I want to know more about the political and social framework of the romance. The romance itself is more of a rekindling of embers. I was left happy with the potential and would happily read a novel in this setting.
Overall, this was well-written and a fun story. I recommend it and and definitely glad I read it.
The setting, story line and characters seem interesting enough to make me consider reading the series but the romance portion was awkward and poorly written. I'm not sure I want to spend the time reading the next book only to discover the romance element is merely an afterthought.
