I own both the solid metal and this plastic version of these 3.5mm stereo pass through jacks. The solid metal one is MUCH more sturdy and doesn't "flake out" like this plastic one. The screw threads strip easy. But, the #1 thing I don't like about this plastic one is how "flimsy" it is and it does NOT make a good connection when you plug in your wires. Had to sandwich a piece of rubber stopper material for the 3.5mm plug to make contact. So, go with the solid metal one available here on Amazon.

UPDATE: Ran into some serious magnetic noise and interference (RF) using the metal ones. I went back to this plastic one and Presto! now the noise/hiss/distortion/weird DC switching noise is GONE when using this plastic pass through jack plug. It is still flimsy, but pretty dern happy that my system works and sounds clean now. Upped to 4-stars now.

I used this to add an aux port to the stereo in my car. The conversion unit I purchased had a cable with a 3.5mm male end which just hung from the dash of the car and plugged into my MP3 player. I didn't like having his cable just hanging here. This adapter allowed me to plug the cable into it, then mount it in the dash. I now have a female aux. port that I can just plug a 3.5mm cable into, then into my mp3 device or cell phone in order to hear the audio through my car stereo. Looks factory original in my dash and works perfectly.....

The plug on the audio cable has wiggle room when plugged in. This causes crackles and the sound to drop out. A complete waste of money. Do yourself a favor... spend the extra $1 and get this one instead. Philmore 3.5mm 4-Conductor Panel Mount Jack with Nickel Plated Metal Housing : 45-396

Works perfectly to give a console mounted 3.5 mm female jack in the car that is secured by a nut! It would be nice if it came with a wider metal washer in case your hole for this is bigger than 3/8" but mine was a perfect fit so a metal washer wasn't needed. I put mine in my center console tray with an RCA y adapter and then ran a 6' RCA cable to the back of my after market car radio so that now I have a second AUX jack.

I purchased this 3.5mm audio jack to allow a phone to be connected through the audio system of my 2002 Yukon. My connection is a hack of the cassette player on my OEM sound system and so I needed to install my own 3.5mm jack. This particular audio jack replaces a previous radio shack version and is much better. The old jack would come unscrewed and the wire connection points were always breaking off and would need to be re-soldered. Once Installed, I have had to perform no other work on it. This is a durable and very usable audio jack. I would recommend this jack to someone looking for one.
