I loved this book and my only complaint is that it finished too soon. In April I spent the whole month isolating on a boat with my lovely man. It was a very happy time because I re-read all of Elin Hildebrand’s books in chronological order, and now - what joy! A new one to read! I was totally involved in the story and found all of the characters interesting and believable. It is the first book thus far to reference Covid19...

If this is her best book then I certainly won’t be buying any of her other books. I found this to be an absolute time waster.

One of the best and most readable books I have read in years. If you need to curl up with a book during lockdown, this is it!

I really enjoyed this book. It's easy to read but not boring. A really engaging, lovely story.

I could not wait to read the next section with this book. Another excellent novel from Erin Hilderbrand.

This is the first book by this author I have read and it packed an emotional whallop that I didn't really expect. I am not usually a fan of books that feature infidelity, but for some reason this story just works and definitely made this reader cry.
I loved the character of Mallory, so much. She is such a wonderful human being, a great mother, a fabulous teacher, fantastic cook......and borrows someone else's husband once a year. It is a surprisingly complex tale, actually. I don't think that Jake and Mallory are automatically terrible people for doing what they do. They both try to do the best they can, every step of the way.
I liked the recap of each year that started each chapter, that was very interesting. Not being American, I had to look up some of them but it brought back lots of memories for me, I have to say.
All in all, this was a story worth reading and I am very happy that I did. Have some tissues handy for the ending though, you will need them!
5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company.

I’ve seen all the love for Elin Hilderbrand books and my interest has been piqued for some time now, but I have to admit I felt a little overwhelmed about where to start! When I saw that Hilderbrand had a new book out, I decided to take the plunge and dive into 28 Summers and I’m so glad that I did.
Hilderbrand’s nostalgic storytelling really draws you into Mallory & Jake’s love affair that spans over many years and through various life & worldly events. I couldn’t help but be swept up in all of the emotions of their special connection as well as the idyllic Nantucket setting, which I now want to visit.
While I personally didn’t agree with the paths they took and the decisions they made, Jake & Mallory’s relationship came across as quite authentic and I was so invested hoping they’d find happiness together despite knowing what we know in the synopsis.
I loved that each chapter was introduced with pop culture references from that year and it was wonderful to take a trip down memory lane as Jake & Mallory’s love story unfolded. 28 Summers is more of a slow burn & immersive type of read that I savoured over several days and that will test your moral compass and have you considering what you would do if faced with similar circumstances.
28 Summers was my first Elin Hilderbrand book but it definitely won’t be my last, I can see why her books make popular holiday or summer TBR picks.

This book is just lovely, set inNantucket. Every time I read one of Elin Hilderbrands books I can imagine the beautiful beaches and smell the salty air. One of those books you can’t put down.

Great Summer Read Minus The Politics
Reviewed in the United States on 21 June 2020Verified Purchase
I would have given this book 5 stars had it not been for Elin not so subtly sneaking in her political opinions on this one. I really enjoy her books and look at them as an escape from the every day minutia, especially social media. I enjoyed how she started each chapter with a different year and the major events that happened in that year. Those are facts. I did not care for the chapter where she blatantly references Judge Kavanaugh and the Me Too movement using one of her main characters to get her own opinions in on the matter. I read these books to get away from the inundation of people's political opinions.

one of the worst books I've read in a long time
Reviewed in the United States on 22 June 2020Verified Purchase
i usually like this author for fun summer reads.I did not like any of the characters in this book. Mallory and Jakes romance was immature, inappropriate, and bad for everyone involved.
I also did not appreciate the lengthy and not necessary to the plot fake Kavanaugh hearing virtue signalling portion of the book.

28 Nantucket Summers
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 August 2020Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this a lot. Mallory is one of Erin's most lovable and fully fleshed characters and I could easily have read another two books about her, but alas it was not to be. In contrast, I found Jake to be a strangely spineless man for not leaving his cold hearted workaholic of a wife, when he and Mallory were much better suited and could have raised a family of Nantucket children together.
Mallory's brother Cooper provides a well drawn foil for her enduring 28 year relationship with Jake - he is married four or five times within those three decades.
I did find it odd that the mean girl characters - Ursula and Leland - were allowed to thrive while poor Linc is left without his mother or grandparents at the age of 18.
I liked the 'what we are talking about' sections at the start of each paragraph - although strangely Trump's name is absent, perhaps a conscious decision.
Looking forward to Erin's second novel of 2020, where she tackles the impact of a hurricane on the Caribbean island of St John.

Interesting characters and well written.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 October 2020Verified Purchase
Not my usual genre as I mostly read psychological thrillers, classics & non-fiction (history). However, my mood was reflective and quite low at the time so thought I would read something to lift it. I really enjoyed this book, an easy read yet emotionally quite difficult because I cared about the two main characters. Their relationship was not one I could personally live with yet I found it mostly fascinating, although also frustrating at times. Well written, would look for this writer again.
