Product description

Product Description

If the US had a commonsense, consumer-friendly billionaire dictator/CEO (no, NOT Donald Trump), no more Congress, President or Supreme Court, these could/would/should be many of his policies.

Imagine that you had ABSOLUTE authority to run the US government. All of it, the whole shebang. What would you do? What principles would you follow? What policies would you put in place? Would you be a dictator with a light touch or a heavy-handed one?

More importantly, could you handle the job? Or would you just curl up in a fetal position, babbling stale, cliched talking points?

This mini-book gives you a glimpse at some of the principles and policies of a guy who found himself (more accurately, put himself) in exactly that position.

So how closely would his policies align with those you might think of?

From the book cover: For policy wonks and political science students, this is an excerpt of some of the policies put in place by Gordon Donne in "The Donne Deal," after he bought (legally) the United States government and fired Congress, the President and the Supreme Court, and took over all legislative, executive and judicial responsibilities.

"The Donne Deal" is a work of fiction, with elements of action, espionage, sex and humor, but Donne's serious policies are distilled into this mini-book, with none of that "fluff," as some might call it, included.

“A dictator with total authority, like Donne, should also have the wisdom to exercise that authority sparingly.” Agree or disagree? And do his policies follow that dictum? And what other questions or discussion topics might this mini-book raise in the readers' minds?

5.0 out of 5 stars A thought-provoking, thoughtfully constructed must-read! 1 March 2015

Fans of Jake Devlin's books will love this streamlined version of the policies set forth in the initial speech that character, Gordon Donne delivers, following his purchase of the U.S. government in the first novel of the Devlin quatrology. I would encourage everyone to read the full series,"The Devlin Deception," followed by "Devlin's Defiance" and "Devlin Sub Rosa," all soon to be followed by the fourth book in this intriguing set of books. Although "257 Ways to Fix the USA" is no substitute for the thrill giving, thought provoking, laugh-supplying, page-turning engagement provided by Devlin's full series, this slimmed down version of the government policies, extracted and presented in their pure form, provides fodder for thoughtful analysis for all those who are engaged with politics and government. For political science educators, this one is a must for stimulating thoughtful debate among your students.

As a reader of all of Mr Devlin's work I had previously read Donne's rules of congress, however I find this book an awesome addition to the Devlin series. Smart and informative, an excellent read. Very Kewl. Scr
