A great take on time travel and quite a change for Stephen King. Although I'm giving it 5 stars, there's a couple of elements I had issues with - one was the copious amount of detail about the assassination. Probably Americans will be fine with it as it's part of that country's history but it was a bit heavy for a non-American. Another is the supernatural character - he's just not needed and detracted just a little from a really great book. But it's still a Stephen King classic and there's no one else that really comes close.
I really enjoyed this - it kept you hooked until the end and didn't leave you with any loose ends. Jake/George faces moral dilemmas that you find yourself heavily invested in, and the characters are the kind who stay with you after the book is finished. One of Stephen Kings' most enjoyable!
Very enjoyable, loved Stephen Kings view on the Kennedy Assassination, you can see that he really studied the subject material. I also like how he delved into Oswalds life, we got to meet the man behind the killer. I also loved his main character Jake/George, he was a very real character, and Sadie too! Stephen King has a knack of dragging you into his book and keeping you addicted until the very last page.
This story had me thinking about it during all hours. A well worked out plot and plausible scenario with a twist finale. an unusual take on time travel with some of the rarely thought of consequences. Certainly kept me reading till the end.
If you were left wondering what happened next after The Shining then this is for you. One of my favourite reads, I always wondered what happened to the 3 survivors of the events at The Outlook. Now you can see what kind of man Dan Torrence became, the struggles of living with his 'gift' and new and decidedly more terrifying challenges ahead. I loved this book and would suggest it to anyone. Covering some 30 years it answers all the questions I had been left with after The Shining.
I enjoyed reading The Shining' and naturally wanted to read more about Danny Torrance and his mother and what happened to them once they left the Overlook Hotel. 'Dr Sleep sure didn't disappoint!! Great read!
