Product Description

This heart-warming novella, set in the 1940s, is a prequel to Rachael Herron's bestselling novel, Eliza's Gift. Home isn't always a place. It's 1945, the war is over, the GIs are returning . . . and Eliza Masterson is on the run from her unhappy marriage. At least she would be if her truck hadn't broken down in the middle of nowhere and her money hadn't, quite literally, flown out the window. So when Joshua Carpenter, a cowboy with the most brilliant blue eyes she has ever seen, stops to offer her help, Eliza can't afford to say no . . . Joshua, it seems, is single-handedly building a home for himself on farmland just outside the town of Cypress Hollow. And even though Eliza is determined to keep running, she is about to discover that sometimes running away is the only way to come home.Telling the story of one of her most loved characters, Eliza's Home is an absolute treat for Rachael Herron fans, and anyone who can't resist a captivating tale of love.NOVELLA

5.0 out of 5 stars Cypress Hollow - the journey begins 18 December 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
If you haven't read the Cypress Hollow series this is a really great introduction and once you have read it - get a hold of the whole series and start reading because what are you waiting for???

I have read the series and loved how this gave a background into Eliza, who is the thread (pardon the pun!) of the whole series, and helps fill in the little gaps. Its also how the love story between Eliza and Joshua started which is just so sweet. And the way Rachael describes the little things in this story just bring it to life - I could totally picture the house as they were building it, all the little touches it was lovely.

I only have one thing negative to say - this is a Novella - I could of kept read a lot longer, I wanted to know more about Eliza and Joshua. I love this series and I hope there will be more

5.0 out of 5 stars Rachael Herron what a gem. 21 December 2013

Love the Cypress Hollow books and this is a real treat. It is a short read but really well written. Ordered it, read and finished in one sitting. I too am a long time knitter and the knitting thread has a real feeling for me. I use knitting to calm and occupy any down time I have. I love having a Kindle because I can knit and read.
This book is very poignant and true to its time, of women marrying men during the war and not really knowing them. Also the war caused many men at that time to come home a different person. It took a long time before veterans from that war spoke out about what happened to them. Women lost so much too. They were given responsible jobs which allowed them to feel fulfilled independent, and needed and then the jobs were taken away and they were expected to go right back to being controlled, The adjustment was very difficult for all.
The hero of the novel is a real hero who allowed himself to adjust to his life and the people around him, The heroine learned to understand herself and grow toward what she needed. Very uplifting book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classy and Elegant Prequel to Established Series 30 January 2014

In Eliza's Home we finally get the story of Knitting Maven Eliza, an Elizabeth Zimmerman of sorts to the yarnie heroines of Rachael Herron's Cypress Hollow series. Through all of the CH books we've seen snippets of Eliza's relationship with her beloved Joshua. It was so wonderful to see them fall in love, to see the foundation that all the other books are built on. We also get to see Eliza learn to knit, which was unexpectedly lovely. As always with Herron books, it is well written and edited, and one cannot help but fall in love with both the hero and the heroine.

If you love the Cypress Hollow books, you need to read this novella. It is not necessary to read it first, although if you're new to Herron books it may be a nice way to start things off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it 8 January 2014

I loved getting Eliza's story, the backstory to the Cypress Hollow series. For being a novella, it's still remarkably effective in telling how Eliza developed the strength of character that was woven throughout How to Knit a Love Song, the first book in the series. My only disappointment was that it ended too soon. As a rabid knitter, I'd love to read the rest of Eliza's life story. Rachael Herron writes characters that make you feel you know them personally - or would like to!
